I've witnessed and been part of our current civilization coming to a grinding halt and it's uniquely horrible.

I appreciate some think when/if this potentially happens in the future, it'll be a free fire zone and whoopee! It'll be good guys vs. bad guys and the good guys will win...Uh-huh...

Get a grip - very quickly the end of civilization will thrust us back into a pre-industrial state. It'll be really ugly.

Even such minor luxuries as soft toilet paper will be a thing of the past and for those of you who know what I'm talking about - you understand... To live will be to endure - Having had the experience of this type of life style I can tell you it's dreadful. On a side note: I lived as a homeless person as a child and having had many different dreadful experiences that mostly entailed living as someone who didn't enjoy civilization, the lack of civilization is not to be underestimated.

Frankly, at my age I won't be sticking around...

Am I being pessimistic? Yes, of course I am. Harkening back to the "good old days" that is, well before my grandparents civilization, when antibiotics might've been considered a sort of magic, isn't my cup of tea... I like the world as it is, with modern medicine and flush toilets and so on, and if it goes off the deep end it won't be an improvement.

The National Firearms Act is retroactive, and your great-grandaddy's hand grenades from the Spanish-American war would not be legal if you had any.
How are they going to retroactively tax consumable commodities?

Make it a crime to possess it without a tax stamp - the same as hand grenades.

The real key to tyranny is taxation. The government can just create what we usually call "white-collar crimes" and then harrass people for violating tax law.

Quite a few notorious criminals like Al Capone went to prison for tax evasion and nothing else. Many others have gone down for mail fraud, wire fraud, money laundering, and obstruction of justice.

But, hey, don't take my word for it. ;-)

For the end of the world? This looks like good ammo.

I am not really concerned with the collapse of society if that happened then small groups will band together to share and protect each other, ammo will be treated like gold, I will trade some ammo for a good milking cow and for chickens. My bigest concern will be civil unrest that spreads out to the burbs because "thats where the rich people live". There are numerous posts about people who are claiming they will start riots if Obama is not re-elected, from past history I do not doubt that at all, look at the excuses used for riots in modern times. I will go food shopping before election day to replenish and keep my gas tanks full, it is not like I will not need food and gas anyways. As for ammo, have plenty and enough supplies to re-load more......... Hint to rioters, thugs and thieves.... stay off of my street, it could be a one way trip......

:iagree:
I was just reading this:
http://www.infowars.com/new-threats-to- ... -election/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Code: Select all

Despite the issue receiving national media attention, Obama supporters continue to threaten to riot if Mitt Romney wins the presidential election, raising the prospect of civil unrest if Obama fails to secure a second term.

I love the "bug out bag" threads. They are so cute. I always wonder where exactly someone is planning to "bug out" to. Will they be bugging down the freeway? Running down the alleys... Where? If you live in the country, you don't need to do anything other than build a fort around your property. But then the government will just send in a drone and blow you up. Yep... Bugging out is just so cute.

And for those of us with acreage out in the middle of nowhere and just need some supplies to get us there?

What about a trail derailment 100 yards from your house and it leaks benzene, and you need to leave NOW. No time to pack up...what do you do then? That would not be the time to grab the necessities and "pack some stuff up".

So while you may think bug out bags threads are "cute", folks who take it seriously do not. Folks do not build up a B.O.B for grins. There are also plans that go in to "bugging out". So while you may think that folks will be "bugging down the freeway, or running down alleys", that is not the case. It may be the case for you or other folks who do not see the value, but not for me.

:tiphat:

Bug out Bags are like Earthquake Kits if you live in California. They make perfect sense......and you hope you never have to use it......so you put one together, trying to balance possible necessity against worst nightmare against bank balance, and you move on with life.

I have other things working too........ammo.........land.......etc. Doesn't mean they're my obsession. Life goes on.

It is a whole lot like thinking a meteor is gonna hit us. There have been folks screaming about the end of the world since the Black Plague. Somehow... It just never ends. To each his own. I live my life free from worry about "the end of society". ;-) ill be darned if I pack a gas mask and a box of bullets in a bag and delude myself into thinking I am preparing for the end of times. Lord have mercy! What kind of way is that to live my life?

Besides... Why should I get a bug out bag. If things really got that crazy, I can just walk up, pull a gun out, shoot a bug out bag holder and take his stuff... Lol. J/k

This is an open forum so try not to be offended if some of us post a different opinion than your own. If you are really that sure of your beliefs, my little old opinion shouldn't be a threat to anyone.

I don't think differing opinions are a problem. I do think belittling and berating comments are. Obviously most of the people posting on this thread are like minded. You obviously are not. So, why not just skip the thread and move on to something that you are passionate about where you actually contribute something constructive to the conversation.

During the week Mrs. Anygun and I live and work in the Houston/Galveston area and live the weekends at our home in LaGrange. Yes we do have said "bug out bags". It is quite appropriate since in the event situations do come up that are not condisive to life here in the Houston Metroplex we indeed will bug out to our home.

I am certain that there are others who have similar plans.

I'm just going to say :iagree: with jmra instead of continuing this. The ignorance is strong with this one, and I feel like I'm dealing with a childish left wing person. Not worth my time...

I agree. It works both ways. Not always around here. Something is seriously wrong if the guy who says he thinks believing you need a survival kit for the end of civilization is cute becomes a threat. I will leave it at this point.
