Suggestions for first time buyer
Moderator: carlson1
Thanks for everyone input. I think from every ones advice and from what I have read else ware the Beretta 92 will be the one for me. Ill just have to bite the bullet and up my price range for one of those. If its as reliable as yall say it is it should be a good investment for my first one.
Having said that does anyone have a deal on one.
As I wrote before, I really like the Beretta , and it will probably be the next gun I buy. That being said if you are planning on carrying it have you concidered the size of that hand cannon? It has a 5 inch barrel and its about 8.5 inches long. I would think there are going to be issues carrying comfortably and concealed.
My carry gun cost well under $400 is reliable, pretty accurate and although still not a small gun it is not difficult to carry all day with a good holster. The stainless Ruger P95.

Granted. But I'm not a little man either. I think comfort, reliability, and easy maintenance can go along way. That and when I'm riding my Motorcycle I'm not going to want something little that I'm going to have to fumble with when wearing leather riding gloves.Liberty wrote:As I wrote before, I really like the Beretta , and it will probably be the next gun I buy. When I was 18 I was convicted of a UCW(Handgun) with a Beretta 92. Like the old saying goes. "To be old and wise you must first be young and stupid." Unfortunately I think I'm somewhere in the middle right now.7GenTex wrote:Wildscar wrote:Since I have never bought a gun thought normal means.

I will back up Liberty's previous quote.
I originally obtained my Carry Permit in Tennessee and my first purchase was a 92FS. I loved the piece but it was a little long to carry. The only advantage I had was that TN was a "carry" state and not a "concealed" state. Which basically meant you would not be in trouble with the law if you accidenatlly flashed you piece in a breeze or bending over to get that last bag of Funions on the bottom shelf at wallyworld.
I have found after some experience that the Glocks are fabulous concealed carry pieces. They are light, durable, have models that pack a great punch (my Glock 31) and you can ALWAYS find a holster for them . Just a thought.

If you plan to carry, don't get 92FS. It's too bulky. Since you have never stated your purpose of using the gun, I cannot really speculate.
G19 is a well-rounded gun. Cheap, easy to carry, fun range gun and easy to maintain. Only downside is it does not have any manual safety which kind of scares me. I would carry HK USPc 9mm instead.

Take a look at the BERSA Conceal and Carry. $ 260 out the door.
Qualified near perfect with it. This was my 1 st handgun and I do carry it on occasion. Dehorned and easy to tuck away anywhere. Not a single glitch in about 800 rnds. Priced right. You should look at the BERSA line.

I carried a 92 for years concealed.
The bottom line is you can carry most any modern popular handgun concealed if you buy the right gear and dress appropriately.
In guns, like anything else, you get what you pay for. Get the one that you like that fits you well.
Then practice, practice, practice.

I'm guessing/hoping that the above has something to do with the below :Wildscar wrote:When I was 18 I was convicted of a UCW(Handgun) with a Beretta 92. Like the old saying goes. I haven't been able, even when I went out of my way, to try and get one of my firearms to fail on me...And thats a long time, and lots of rounds I've gone through...
If I ever do, I will certainly tell y'all...

Yes the two are the one and the same. It was 14 years ago and was only a class B misdemeanor. From what others have said on here it should not be a problem.Velocity wrote:I'm guessing/hoping that the above has something to do with the below :Wildscar wrote:When I was 18 I was convicted of a UCW(Handgun) with a Beretta 92. 6'3" 240 - husky build.casselthief wrote:I carry my B92 all the time. with a twenny round mag.
I posted pics but, well, BuTT they got discarded....
regardless. you say you're a big dude. you mean like 6'2" 220 big, or 5'8" 250 big, cause there's a world of difference there.
regardless, given body habitus, you can hide any gun someplace!
If / when I purchase my P92 I will probably carry it. Although I know it will never be a primary carry. TXI, was it your primary carry and did comfort have anything to do with you not carrying it any more?txinvestigator wrote:I carried a 92 for years concealed.

I don't believe in the old saying "that you get what you pay for" at all. There are good values out there and expensive pieces of junk. I've seen a lot of people here get some real good deals. Paying more is no guarentee at all
