i was lookin at the mosin's on aimsurplus and they have two versions which one would be a better buy?

I agree the Mosin's are cheap and fun to shoot, but if you are new to shooting rifles, I would stick with the suggestions for a smaller caliber. Those Mosin's will half knock your shoulder off. A .22 will cost you very little to shoot and you can concentrate on learning the proper way to shoot as opposed to being physically worn out after a few dozen rounds.

You can find a Marlin 30-30 for cheaper than $300 usually. A lever action in .357 or .44 Magnum is also a good choice.

I have a Remington 700, which is a damn, damn good gun, but for light plinking on a budget I wouldn't recommend it.
