Wow, what an encounter - it will probably be an experience you will never forget. Good thing the young man immediately stopped and surrendered otherwise that might have turned into a shoot situation. Great reaction on your part.

Sounds like a drug deal gone bad. Maybe he owes them money.
Good job on decision-making under high stress.

I'm so glad no one was hurt. That's really scary and it could easily have been a different situation where none of you are celebrating Christmas. You handled the situation extremely well. Definitely something to be thankful for.

BLG,
Out of curiosity, who called the cops and how long did it take for them to show up?
This is a great story... glad nobody got hurt, and glad you didn't get to shot.

Great job! Not shooting is one of the hardest things to do when your adrenalin is pumping. Sounds like you handled it like a "pro."

Thrilled everything worked out well! Good on you for quick, calm response!
This goes to show how rehearsing scenarios in your head will let you react quickly and calmly in the heat of the moment. The mind does not differentiate between doing and thinking of doing in rehearsals. This is why it is so important to consier how you would react in different situations. We have all sorts of interesting conversations at our house around the table and in the car. We include our teens and get their perspective as well.
Merry Christmas!

I wholeheartedly agree. That is why books, discussions, and self-defense threads can be so useful. If one concentrates when reading "The Armed Citizen" or follow-up action reports here on TexasCHLForum, the brain is building up triggers and automatic responses. I have read at least 7 or 8 concealed carry, situational awareness, or self-defense books in the last six months. I am convinced that the more scenarios one has run through the mind, the greater likelihood that an automatic reaction can be triggered. I try to visualize events in my mind and map out various options.
Thanks for this important reminder.

This is good to read. I had never considered the person trying to break down my door might be running for their life instead of attempting to take mine. I've got another scenario to be running through my head now. I feel a tiny bit more prepared to make a better decision in the future now.
