Good hunting.! :patriot:

Instead, I'm taking my Yankee-Liberal BIL and my nephew to the range for their first-ever shooting lesson today.
It'll NEVER stick, but at least I'LL feel better knowing I've tried.
Don't count on it. I have a friend at the station that was, for all intents and purposes, anti 2A. As we sparred back and forth it came to what types of limits on which firearms are "allowed" often peppered with the tired old, "So you'd want anyone to have an RPG if they wanted it," kind of rhetoric. Then one day out of the blue came, will you take me shooting? Once I collected myself from the floor I said sure and we set a date (He sprung for lunch, fees and ammo). Before shooting and during lunch we were talking about the aspects of CHL's, the law and responsibilities and I asked if he would be surprised to know I was carrying a full sized pistol that I could employ in under 2 seconds. He was shocked.

Afterwards, he was now asking about home protection, security and what he was considering for when he got his CHL. So keep the faith, you never know what might "click".
I've converted a few anti's in the past. I knew my chances today were slim.
In fact, my sister put the kibosh on the range trip this morning.
After today's events, I'm 100% certain I was adopted. "rlol"
At least I still have y'all. And of course my wife and kids who all know how to shoot pretty well.

C'est la vie.

Andy, really! Do you really think it's fair to get into a battle of wits with unarmed commentators?

The only way to stop violent acts with firearms is an all out ban on them...

Even here in Austin most people think that your average grocery store is a gun free zone because they sell beer and wine...I just don't have the heart to tell them about the "unlicensed posession" signs and that a CHL allows me to walk right in and do my business without having to disarm... Because I don't want to perform CPR on them when they have a heart attack
Yeah, it's not like a liquor store ever gets robbed. Most liberals aren't just stupid, they're moral cowards. They don't want to defend themselves, they want someone else to do it and take responsibility for it so they don't have to get their hands dirty.

I'm going to steal that some time. That has so much winning in it.

The man used explosives, killing 38 children and quite a few grownups, as well. I say this not to belittle what happened recently, but to show that its not the tools that are used, but HOW they are used and WHO uses them that matters. That'll get them REAL spun up.
Actually one firearm was used, he touched off the explosive in the car by firing a rifle into it.

Okay, but what I meant was that he didn't use any firearms to DIRECTLY kill, as in shoot anyone. In the absence of the rifle, he could have set that thing off a number of ways, even in 1927.

As Julia Gorin points out in "The Anti-gun Male":

"The very ownership of a gun for defense of home and family implies some assertiveness and a certain self-reliance. But if our (anti-gun) man kept a gun in the house, and an intruder broke in and started attacking his wife in front of him, he wouldn't be able to later say, "He had a knife--there was nothing I could do!""

and

"how is he supposed to feel knowing there are men out there who aren't intimidated by the big bad inanimate villain? How is he to feel in the face of adolescent boys who have used the family gun effectively in defending the family from an armed intruder? So if he can't touch a gun, he doesn't want other men to be able to either. And to achieve his ends, he'll use the only weapon he knows how to manipulate: the law."
Just wanted to add a link for AndyC's quote..
I went looking this morning and figured others might like find the link useful.

Thank you! I was hoping for further elucidation also, and this article is well put.

Mr. Kehoe bludgeoned his wife to death. He used alarm clocks to detonate the massive amounts of dynamite and pyrotol he had staged in the school and then used a rifle to set off the dynamite in his shrapnel ladened truck after responders came. A truly vicious and maniacal individual. There was about 500 lbs of explosives that didn't go off in another location in the school. As stated the tools vary, but if someone is intent on doing evil a method will be found. Depends on what's available and/or prevalent.

I particularly liked this quote from the final paragraph in Julia Gorin's piece:
In short, he is a man begging for subjugation. He longs for its promise of equality in helplessness. Because only when that strange, independent alpha breed of male is helpless along with him will he feel adequate. Indeed, his freedom lies in this other man's containment.
