Why don't we teach them to call it what it really is... "Help, Kidnapper!!! Call the Police... I'm being kidnapped!!" for example. That would help clear the real dad, step dad, mom's boyfriend "domestic" bull out of the air at least. Although I would still *closely* watch any of that going on, too, just in case, but at least if I heard those words I for one wouldn't hesitate to jump in.

I appreciate everyone's views--I have gleamed some good ideals. For the courses of fire in this training, I have decided to split it up (20/80) between some basic range time and force on force simmunition training--I never have gained any practical knowledge in self defense or Executive Protection training by remaining static and punching holes in paper. Gunfights are never static--and kidnapping/hostage sits are no different--if we intend to stop the BG from doing what he is doing, we must be preapred to deal with a moving, shucking and diving actor, while at the same time practicing discretionary shooting. Finding a medium ground between not being too high speed/low drag and being practical for the armed parent is my challenge here---- Alot of the scenarios I am planning to use come directly from the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) VIP Protection Primer--I used it to setup the layout for my shoot house, so the scenarios should flow nicely--all that will needed to be done is change the locations and distances to make it more applicable to what we are studying.
