Years ago, on my first time submitting the application, I listed my place of birth as the "District of Columbia". Some mental wonder at DPS flagged me as a foreign national until someone else straightened him/her out.
Yeah, I know, D.C. seems like it's not just another country ... but, rather, another world. I never lived there; was simply born there.

Well, I guessed wrong, but there is another place in the continental US where you were not born in a city, state, county.
I just assumed we would have turned down anyone from Louisiana for a CHL, just because.

Me neither, we lived in Arlington, but moved to Fort Benning almost immediately, and then Fort Sam Houston, which is where my earliest memories are from and makes me feel like a native Texan even if it's not strictly true.

"Parish" the thought. I guess other commonwealths would be out of the state category too, but I thought LA had cities.

Well I to was born in a strange place,in the city of Karachi country of Pakistan
"oil field trash" my dad was a driller.Could be why I'm still waiting for my chl
even though I did my prints at the DPS and had the background check in hand when I hand delivered the App on Jan 12 2007. Still procesing?

Did you send proof of citizenship along with your app? I was born in the Philippines (Air Force brat), and was advised to send a copy of my Certificate of Birth Abroad. I hope you were too, as I've seen 3 cases in these forums of people in similar situations getting their application process delayed because they didn't provide proof of citizenship.

Yes I Did along with a copy of my passport and a copy of an airport ID that I had for Dulles airport [also FBI background check]But thanks anyway

Speaking of states, countries, counties, I heard a Paul Harvey "Rest of the story" the other day about Ohio. Evidently Ohio was still technically a part of the Northwest Territories until the mid 20th century. Something about the Congress at the time Ohio applied for statehood didn't ratify the application. Makes you question if all the people who paid federal taxes in Ohio should have gotten a big refund

I also heard that. And my first thought was that this could be a very interesting legal case. I really don't care too much about Ohio's status as a general rule, but I seem to remember that they were also the state that ratified the Income Tax amendment and that there was some question about whether they did it right or not.
Can you see that court case if one of the anti-income tax people gets enough money and a good lawyer and fights it to SCOTUS?
