Most of the tier 1 shops had the backlogs before the stupidity. Rarely would Larue, BCM, LMT, or DD have what I was looking for on a given day.

And TAM is right on with pricing.

Agreed. Quality always takes more time than we expect. But the wait is always worth it.

That is so true. Buy once cry once. I like backpacking and hiking and have a bad back so I wanted quality and support. That's why I went for quality and went with Mystery Ranch backpacks. It's also why when I bought my first pistol in college (and I knew it would be awhile before I would be able to get a second one) I bought an H&K. It was to be my carry pistol.

What is the opinion on DPMS & Wyndham ARs? I was also looking at an M&P.

The M&P is probably the better choice. I use DPMS parts to build ARs. Nothing wrong with them if you just want a basic, run of the mill AR15. Wyndham was born from the fallout of the the acquisition of Bushmaster. They are not junk. They are not Tier 1.

The materials and processes used to manufacture the rifle are what determines where it falls on the list.

Tier 1 would include Colt, Noveske, LMT, and others of that caliber. I don't really know very much about Wyndhams. DPMS makes decent guns. Like I said, I use DPMS parts to build ARs with, and they are just fine for most use. But if I were a SEAL team member or Delta Force operator, I would want the very best that money could buy because my profession routinely places my life at risk. (An analogy might be made with bolt action rifles.....I own a very accurate Remington 700 in .308 Winchester. It is topped with a very nice middle priced Leupold scope. If I were a professional sniper, I'd want an M40-A5 [also based on the Remington 700] topped with a Schmidt & Bender 3–12× 50mm Police Marksman II LP scope.) With the top tier manufacturers, you are guaranteed mil-spec. You are guaranteed strength and quality of forgings. You are guaranteed the strongest parts like bolts and bolt carriers, with hi-tech coatings that reduce wear and carbon buildup. You are guaranteed higher tolerances, like the lockup between upper and lower receiver for instance. Stuff like that. M&P and Rock River are somewhere midway between DPMS and tier 1.

But that does not mean that DPMS is junk. I own an AR10 SASS rifle which will put 4 rounds into a single hole at 100 yards. It is a custom build, and both the upper and lower receivers are DPMS parts. It has a Noveske barrel, and a honed Rock River 2-stage match trigger. The bolt carrier is DPMS, but the bolt is from Noveske. And DPMS makes some pretty nice complete rifles in both 5.56 and .308.

You might try doing like a lot of people do, and just build your own from parts. And again, I just don't really know much about Wyndham rifles.
