ive been searched on my motorcycle on the ferry. i ride a sport bike. the guy asked to open the storage compartment for him. i accually laughed at him and said if it doesnt fit in my jacket their isnt enough room. but i took the seat off anyway, i guess he has never seen the ample storage area under the seat of a sportbike. lol.

I have seen them looking for expired tags more at night then anything else.

if they want to search for hazardous cargo they need to check the restrooms on the ferry, those things are worse then any truckstop bathroom ive ever seen.

Before Ike took our beach house I learned the hard way about gas cans. We got the house in 1988 and had taken gas across many times. I can't remember what year it was but was quite sometime after 9/11 and it was before the random search was implemented. It was holiday weekend and the line was to the seawall. When I was approaching the load point a Galveston County LEO saw the two full 5 gallon gas cans and told me I would have to dump them (??) or leave them. I asked him if I could empty them in my truck tank and was told I'd have to go back to the end of the line to do that. He also said I'd have to fill the empty cans with water. I left them there.
I asked him about boat tanks and he said they were no problem and OK to bring on the ferry. The random searches I've seen and experienced varied from a cursory look into the vehicle to more extensive searching; under the vehicle with mirror, under hood and trunk and looking into glove box and console, etc. Only good thing is getting loaded ahead of the line. I've only had one bad experience when one of the "agents" overheard me say it was a joke and she started into a tirade about how she could keep me off the ferry and hold me there for an extended period of time. I just let her vent.
