I find it funny that the two cops were doing "wally walks" when this all occurred. What were they thinking? :banghead: :banghead:

The fugitive went under.
GRAPEVINE, Texas (AP) — A Florida prisoner who escaped earlier this week after stabbing a detective with his eyeglasses was shot and killed by law enforcement officers near Dallas following a foot chase, authorities said Saturday.

Any further details you can share. Where was he hiding all this time? Was he in shackles?

I don't know any more details right now other than what's been on the local news broadcasts this morning. She texted my wife early this morning to say that they had killed him right near their house, which is on the lake. I've located on Google Maps what I THINK is the spot where they shot him, based on what I think is the location of the news crews covering the story, but I can't say for certain that I got it right, and I would not be comfortable posting the location of my friends' house online. They deliberately bought property and built where they would have some privacy.

But if the spot I found is the right one, then they got the guy not more than 300-400 yards from her house

The news broadcast says it was in the 2200 block of Lakeridge Rd, in Grapevine, which is on the lake. It is a little further from my friends' house than I originally thought....maybe a half mile away. It was not far from a house that had been burglarized, and it was apparently information found at the burglary which led police to look for Morales in that area, finally pinning him down and shooting him. Don't know if he was armed or not at the time, but I'd be willing to bet that he stole clothes from the house, because it is 32º or so by the lake this morning.

One of the other reports said LEOs surrounded him, then shot him when he threatened them with "sticks". While I don't mind that they killed him, don't they have less than lethal tools they could have used on him if all he had were "sticks" - Taser, batons, something like that. Especially given that they had him surrounded. There have to be facts missing here.

I wouldn't want to go after him with a baton and I don't think all officers have less than lethal options like tasers or bean bag shotguns.

If the earlier stories are true, Morales put a cop in the hospital with a pair of glasses while he was shackled.

You mean none of the officers on the hunt had tasers?!?!?! That does not seem likely.

I know this guy was a bad dude. But all he had were sticks. Unless something is missing from the story, which I wouldn't discount.

I was outside around midnight Friday and heard around five shots, saw and heard the helicopter, saw the cop cars, the ambulance, etc. Fairly close to where I live. I see those houses (and the marina referenced in one of the stories) from the boat when we anchor in McPhearson Slough, it's a nice older area of Grapevine. The woods referenced have trails through them that walkers, joggers, bicyclists, fishermen, etc all frequent.

They found him because he had burglarized a nearby home and stolen some men's clothing (he escaped wearing just shorts and a t-shirt, and the nights have been in the 30s here). For all they new, he might have stolen a gun too. He had managed, while shackled and manacled, to stab a cop with a shank he made while in the back seat of the car he was being transported in. When he was caught, he no longer had the shackles and manacles on him. He either stole the keys from the cop he shanked, or he had found tools to take them off with. He was a resourceful and violent criminal. He didn't simply escape; he overpowered and badly injured a cop in order to effect his escape.

He got shot dead while exhibiting further aggressive behavior. Sniff! Too bad.

I'm sure he was a fine young man who just fell on bad times, got mixed up in the wrong crowd, was in the wrong place at the wrong time...
