I'll add that I have been more focused and deliberate with my range time & rounds. Where i would normally blow through a 50rnd box as a warm up & to get the yips out & blow off a little steam, I now focus from start to finish.

I went from shooting 500-1000 rounds every weekend (500 on 1st and 3rd weekend, 1000 on 2nd and 4th) to shooting 150 rounds every two weeks. I too like to replenish my inventory +1 for every box I shoot, but it has been hard the past few months. Hopefully all this will subside and ammo will become more readily available, but I doubt we will see the same prices of ammo before all this craziness.

Prices at the box stores & LGS' are about the same as before. Or if there is a difference, it's not very noticeable. Now the online stores seem to be slightly on the high side of mid-range to "you've got to be kidding". Ammo dealers at the gun shows are out of their skulls high.

I haven't seen a box of 9mm, 22lr, 308, or 22 mag in months. I've shot all my 9mm target ammo, and I'm down to about 25 rounds of 22lr and a box and a half of 22 mag. I only have 150 rounds or so of 308. My shooting for fun is over for a while. I will never be party to a bidding war on ammunition.

No bidding war necessary. But finding ammo these days does require some work & figuring out when stores get their shipments in. I'll admit that I go through a lot more for a couple of 50rnd boxes than I ever thought I would. Heck, when all of this started I thought this will be an opportunity for me & my 12ga O/U to spend some quality time together.

Certain powders, primers and certain bullets are impossible to find.

I must admit the hoarding fever is addicting. I see it at a good price and I order. What I am waiting for though is reloading supplies. Ammo is possible but primers, powder and bullets are just hard to find. Recently bought a Glock 21 ( 45 acp) and ammo seems relatively easy. 9 mm though is tough. I have plenty from "before" but can't find any new. The sign of the times is that there is almost no brass at my range anymore, everyone seems to be hoarding it.

It's so bad I heard thieves are leaving the guns behind and stealing the ammo!

I don't mind supply & demand--I don't mind businesses making a $ from it--that is what free market is all about. What I do mind is the gouging. There is one store that I will never set foot in again--when this all started, they jacked the price of 100 white box Winchester 115 gr from 22.95 to 49.95.

If you need ammo, setup an account on gunbot.net, set a threshold price above which you will not buy, and then setup an alert for prices that pass below the threshold. When the alarm goes off, look at the offer and see if you want it. If you do, order it immediately. Most stuff only lasts for a few minutes. I just bought 500 rounds of .223 hollow points for 43 cents a round including shipping that way. Either that or stand in line at Walmart/Academy/Cabelas and wait until they open to scarf up one box of 100.

Of course it is gouging but it doesn't matter! As long as some hoarder is going to pay it they are going to charge it! People are still buying ammo like crazy and paying %300+ mark up. When those people are done or collected their 50,000 rounds it will start to let up. Like I said in another post. People are buying thousands and thousands of rounds! Not just the veteran firearms owners but all the first timers. My father owns his own residential service business and he has personally seen pallets of ammo in peoples garages. Thousands of rounds in the suburbs in each house! When I say thousands I mean tens of thousands in each house is not uncommon!

I'm doing a lot more dry fire and that's not a bad thing.

I opened the gun drawer yesterday where I keep my ammunition. CTD price tags are still on the boxes of 223. 20 round box of wolf for $2.97. 50 round box of black hills hollow points for $13.97.

Maybe I should wait for them to have garage sales in 2014. Whether or not associated with a divorce.

i am against the price gouging. but i will be laughing all the way to the bank before i will pay 500% markup.i dont pay interest on anything and i refuse to pay a huge mark up on somthing that isnt going away.if obama says we are going to take away your ammo i will be in line panic buying more then anyone else, but all he wants to do for now is take away guns for now.
