Detailed scientific investigations have shown that, yes, it would eventually grow back. I conduct such an investigation about once a week........not that I couldn't do it daily, I just don't mind looking scruffy and I hate to shave because I've never found a method that I actually enjoy. Well.......I enjoy a shave in a barber's chair. I allow myself 2 or 3 like that each year at the Back in Time barbershop in Colleyville, just so I can feel "manpered" ("pampered" is for women).



When I shave myself, I use the 9 bladed HP9436X Dual Turbo Whisker Blaster and whatever shaving cream happens to follow my wife home from Walmart. I have an average beard, and I get maybe 3-4 shaves out of a blade set before they start pulling the hairs out instead of cutting them off. Instead of making multiple passes, I borrow my wife's flat-iron with medium starch to get that "smooth as a baby's butt" feel. I have one heavy coarse hair growing out of a wen on my left cheek (on my face........I treat the hair on my other cheeks by means of a different process). Periodically, I wash it, comb it out, buff and polish it, and borrow my wife's curling iron to give it a bit of flair. Occasionally I dye it purple and sing loudly to Scottish punk music played at a high volume. (By the way BLG, without consulting me, the Highland Games people rudely rescheduled this year's event for the same weekend I'm going to be in California, so I'll have to miss it. )

I also have one really coarse hair growing out of my left eyebrow, and it stands straight out from my brow, instead of lying down peacefully next to its brothers. I hang a carrot off the end of it to keep me going forward.......


.....OK, all of that is false, except the part about the carrot....

I can see that I'm going to have to try out the manly charms of shaving with a straight razor. My hands shake more now as I get older. If any of you are praying men, I sincerely covet your prayers.....

The Rules For Straight Razor Safety

1. All straight razors are always..., well..., razor sharp!
2. Never let the blade touch anything you are not willing to destroy (this is a tough one).
3. Keep your blade off your face till your blade is on the target.
4. Identify your facial hair, and what is behind it. Never shave anywhere that you have not positively identified as needing a shave.

I learned to shave with a double edge, discovered the trac II and never looked back. Trac II, Foamy, Right Guard, then the wife decided the world was going to end because of chlorofluorocarbons. Successfully defended the trac II even though it contained "plastic", but the aerosols were gone. Trac II, William's Mug and a Jagger best badger brush, Mitchum. Never acquired a nose for the foo-foo.

Still not going back.

I used single blade disposable razors and Safeguard soap followed by Nivea sensitive aftershave. I have to be clean shaved for work, only combo I have found that doesn't irritate my skin.

havent had that issue sence i was 14. i remember have tolit paper stuck to my face to stop the bleeding.

I got a sample pack of diffeent blades to see which brand I like the best. No nicks with the first blade (used for almost a week), but yesterday's got me once. Nothing dramatic. . . not a gusher. :)

They say every brand shaves just a little different. . even in the same razor. Once I find the combo I like I'll just stick with it.

When I posted earlier, I couldn't remember what I used before the Trac II. This reminded me. It was a Schick Injector single blade. Good razor!

I had not heard of this until reading your post. I have used cartridge razors since I started shaving, and about 2 years ago, I switched to the electric. The cartridges were getting more and more costly, and the irritation that they caused on my face was getting on my nerves. The electric didn't irritate as much, but doesn't even touch the closeness that a blade gives.

After reading your post and the replies, I started doing some searching, and ended up at a site called The Shave Den. I've been reading all I can, checked out most of Mantic's videos, and my Gillette Slim Adjustable arrived in the mail yesterday. I will likely be trying my first DE shave tonight or tomorrow.
