I know Christie is not popular and I don't like him much myself but I think it is a shame folks have to go after his weight. Being heavy doesn't make him a bad politician but I guess it is an easy/convenient thing to attack.

Yeah, I've seen/heard some conservatives mention Michael Moore's weight while attacking him. Funny how we detest political correctness about almost everything, ah, unless we're fat...
No one's fat anymore, we're "heavy" or "large", but heavens we're never 'fat'.

The other popular p.c. word or term is "pass" or "passed on" because no one "dies" or "died" anymore.

It's not a matter of political correctness, it is childish and doesn't do anything to help support one's argument. When someone has to start attacking someone's weight, skin color and other personal physical traits, I start to wonder about their credibility and message.

If, in the course of reporting about a particular story the reporter describes the subject as trim, slender, or even svelte, no one seems to mind, but utter the word "FAT" (sudden deep breath inhalation) and people become quite sensitive.
I'm sorry, but "FAT" is a perfectly reasonable word.

There is a long and vigorous history of insulting politicians in American culture. When a malfeasant idiot presumes to feed at the public teat, their decision to enter public life makes them fair game for virtually any odious insult.
I don't apologize a bit for referring to him as a self-medicating food addict.
Thomas Jefferson's critique of President John Adams included the accusation that he was "a hideous hermaphroditical character, which has neither the force and firmness of a man, nor the gentleness and sensibility of a woman."
Adams responded with having Jefferson described as "a mean-spirited, low-lived fellow, the son of a half-breed Indian squaw, sired by a Virginia mulatto father ... raised wholly on hoe-cake (made of coarse-ground Southern corn), bacon, and hominy, with an occasional change of fricasseed bullfrog. ..."
Modern American political vitriol doesn't even begin to hold a candle on the contemptuous insults hurled daily in the British parliament.
