Have a friend who always says a .380 just doesn't do enough damage! Funny when I ask if I can shoot him with it he always says no.
Sorry to have to be the one to say this, but this argument shows a serious deficiency in the thought process.

I won't volunteer to be shot with a BB gun or hit with a thrown rock.
Sure as hell doesn't mean I trust my life to either.

Up until last week, I would have agreed with you - but I've had just enough luck finding 9mm lately that I'm back to shooting it.

I still haven't found any 9mm when going to my local academy or walmart. Of course I go after work and by then it is all gone. I have been told by both stores that there is still lines in the morning for ammo and it is always out long before noon.

I have seen it at my local range and online but I am not going to pay 70 cents a round for 9mm. Still have plenty on hand for now but it will be a long time before I am that desperate to pay that price or skip a day of work just to buy 9mm.

This was meant as funny. Carry what you are comfortable shooting and have a ready supply of. I have carried .380,9mm,and .45 and so far they have been the same...they carried well.

You can get anything you want but you have to show up by 7am to get it. Get the Walmart app and it will show you what is in stock for the next morning. If you show up at 9am, your chances are a bout 40% and rapidly decrease every half hour after. By noon you are out of luck! I've amassed 1200 rounds of .9mm over 6 weeks at $14/box (taxes inc.) by doing what I call the "Walmart/Academy tour". I hit every Walmart and Academy along my cities loop starting at 7 am, starting with the Walmarts the app tells me they have some in stock. :tiphat:

Mon- fri that is a no go for me but I will try that app on sat. Or sun. And give it a go. Also I know I have mentioned it before and according to my renewal instructor in Dec. I still live in the #1 Chl zip in the state. A ton of Chl holders buying ammo around here!

I stopped worrying too much about .357sig, .45GAP, +P+ ammo, and all the other newest coolest highest speed lowest drag ammo after watching this video. It's an anesthesiologist from Seattle who has spent a lot of time watching trauma surgeons at work on gun shot wound patients. The quality isn't great, but I think that the present does a great job.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feat ... ku8YI68-JA" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
That video made two major points:
1 - Wounds caused by handguns pale in comparison to wounds caused by rifles.
2 - Hollow points don't do enough damage because they don't have enough energy to penetrate far enough to destroy tissue/vital organs.

With a handgun, shot placement is even more important, and penetration, even more so.

IIRC, the doctor mentioned that SKIN, is 4 x times more resistant to bullet damage than muscle!

It seems that hollow point fragmentation really doesn't do much when it's coming from a handgun. Damage due to the expanding bullet is negligible. It only helps to keep the bad guy alive and allow him to cause innocents more harm in the process.

Interesting how it was head shots that finally stopped the bad guy in Officer Gramin's incident. That bad guy was acting as if he was possessed, or something... anyway...

I'd be willing to bet a 9mm FMJ or two to the pelvis would have shattered it, and if not, then the bad guy's very next step would have caused it to shatter, bringing him down as well.

The pelvis is a much bigger target than the skull, or the brain stem. The doctor mentioned that only the brain stem is absolutely required for life.

That video surely drove the point home as to how much more damaging rifles can be as compared to handguns due to the vastly greater amounts of energy transferred because of the high muzzle velocities of rifle cartridges.

Nice stuff, learned alot.

After several trips to the local Walmarts, mostly unsuccessful, I've found that it's the Sporting Good Managers who open @ 7am who put the ammo out that was received about 10pm the prior night. One in particular indicated that even if ammo showed up Friday night, or over the weekend, only the manager would put it on the shelf first thing Monday mornings by 7am or so.

In practice, ammo seems to be available by 8am or earlier. By 10am, whatever was put on the shelf, is gone.

Moral of the story: no more early morning trips to Walmart on weekends looking for ammo. Never have found any, and now I know why.

But I usually find some on Friday mornings. There was .40 cal available today. But no 9mm.

Search for "ammo" and click the brand/caliber you are interested in. There will be a button to allow you to check availability in your area stores. Click that. Remember, it is probably showing you what's on the truck waiting to be unloaded by the night crew. Call first.
