It's all about priorities. Do you wnat to get the best possible price for your pistol, or do you want to sell the pistol with minimal headache factor?

If you don't want to spend the time to find the right buyer, you can accept a much lower price from a dealer. "Retail" price to a consumer being twice what "wholesale" price from a supplier is does not represent anything unusual for many stores. Please note that I am not claiming to know what gun store margins normally are - I'd wager that they are lower than this on new guns. What I can say is that when I managed a store selling sporting goods, the "full price" for many items was twice what the wholesale cost was, but this was not the rule on higher ticket items.

If you have the time and energy available to post the pistol for sale, wait for the right buyer, and stave off all the silly people that will lowball you and tell you why your pistol is worth less than you think, then you will probably be able to get the sort of money that you want. I have a dozen firearms that I am currently selling - and I have time (but not patience to deal with lowballers). My approach is to offer them to my friends at a price that is halfway between "full market" price and what I would get from a dealer. So far, I've sold 75% of what I have on hand - and my time investment has been minimal.
