I'm sure you think these aren't either.

Or these manufacturers where revolvers and pistols are distinctly listed in separate sections.

I'm sure Colt or S&W who have been around for over a hundred years have no idea of what they're selling and that you know better.
Go ahead, call a magazine a clip, call a loaded cartridge a bullet and calll revolvers pistols. But don't try to convince people that know better that slang usage is correct.

I think that is a revolver caliber.
You could get a .357 Sig in a pistol.
pis·tol
/ˈpistl/
Noun
A small firearm designed to be held in one hand.
Synonyms
gun - revolver - handgun
From Websters:
"The two classes of pistol are revolvers and automatics. Automatics have a mechanism, actuated by the energy of recoil, that feeds cartridges from a magazine in the grip."
The correct distinction would be semiautomatic vs. revolver.
Unless of course you are talking about the designation on a CHL which would be SA (semiautomatic) and NSA (non-semiautomatic).
Exactly. Don't be a smart A when you don't even know the definition of what you're saying is incorrect.
Sorry, slang is not equal to definition.
... a pistol is a handgun with a chamber that is integral with the barrel.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol
A revolver is a repeating firearm that has a revolving cylinder containing multiple chambers and at least one barrel for firing.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolver
You can't be serious quoting Wikipedia.
Let's look at Websters
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/pistol
"a handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel; broadly : handgun"
"The two classes of pistol are revolvers and automatics. Automatics have a mechanism, actuated by the energy of recoil, that feeds cartridges from a magazine in the grip."
Pistol is a broad term for any handgun.
Of course I'm sure you would argue with Webster too.

Wow, never thought the distinction was this important.
SA = carry anything
NSA = revolvers

What jmra said. Dictionary definitions are slang use? LOL
You're awfully defensive over a silly debate.

Since I was attacked and told I had no idea what I was talking about, I took the defensive stance.
Samuel Colt invented the REVOLVER. I think they know what they are talking about when they talk about the gun their founder invented.
This terminology that Colt uses is consistent with the correct definition. If revolvers were in fact pistols, there would be no need to mention them separately below, would there? They would just say, "Colt has sold more than 30 million pistols and rifles bearing the Colt name."
I'm just trying to educate here. Take it or not.
Sam Colt's success story began with the issuance of a U.S. patent in 1836 for the Colt firearm equipped with a revolving cylinder containing five or six bullets. Colt's revolver provided its user with greatly increased firepower. Prior to his invention, only one- and two-barrel flintlock pistols were available. In the 163 years that have followed, more than 30 million revolvers, pistols, and rifles bearing the Colt name have been produced, almost all of them in plants located in the Hartford, Connecticut, area.

I won't debate pistol vs. revolver, but when it comes to dictionaries, I wouldn't argue much when it comes to the English language. However, when it comes to technical terms, I have no more faith in the weenies determining technical definitions than I do with members of congress, or the media, getting it right when it comes to firearms. MHO.

I thought NSA = revolvers, derringers,
lever action pistols, or basically any handgun that's not semiautomatic.

When it comes to handguns you have two types and they are Revolver and Pistol. Pistols are any handgun that is not a revolver, while revolvers are handguns with a revolving cylinder. A Single shot black powerder handgun is a pistol. A semi-auto Glock is a Pistol. A Ruger Redhawk is a revolver. A derringer is a pistol. But for CHL purposes the state of Texas see's two types as well and they are Semi-Auto and Non-Semi-Auto. If you qualify with a Semi-Auto you can carry anything, if you qualify with a revolver or some non-semi-auto pistol they you may not carry a semi-auto. Now for a brain Teaser, I wonder what category can someone carry if they a qualify with a Mateba Auto Revolver...

...and I contend any handgun can be considered a pistol. It doesn't have to be semi-auto...
The guys shooting single action revolvers in the nineteenth century were often called "Pistoleros".

Wonder if they ever "pistol whipped" anyone.

According to some, such a thing would never be said cuz a pistol has to be a semi-auto, right?
It'd have to be: "Revolver-whipped"...

I'll bet you one thing, if they pistol whip you with either one, you won't be able to tell the difference in those knots. Ha
