would it make any sense to have an open/no choke barrel on one for home use - as I would not be using out in the field - hmmm

Yes. Large buckshot is handled a lot better by an open choke shotgun, no matter what the barrel length is.

If stock is too long a ruler and hand saw will correct that .

The Mossberg SA20 tactical is another great option. My wife had a Mossberg 500 for a while that she used for hunting and HD. She always had trouble remembering to cycle the pump action for a follow-up shot. A semi-auto took care of that. Another thing to think about is that in a high stress situation, a lot of people tend to forget to work the slide fully on a pump and "short stroke" it. This causes the firearm to jam no matter what manufacturer of pump gun. If she plans on training alot with it, this may not be a problem. If not, a semi-auto like the SA20 or Weatherby SA 459? works well. All she needs to remember is to load the first round, release the safety and pull the trigger.

BTW, both the SA20 and Weatherby are available with a pistol grip stock similar to the AR 15 with an A2 stock. My wife likes this set-up very well.

870 in 20 gauge with a screw in choke will work just fine in mod or imp.

I do not want to high jack the thread, but does anyone know if you can buy a Surefire Forend Stock for a Remington 870 20g youth model?

Great advice Andy. You have not because you ask not. I called this afternoon and they only make the fore-ends for 12ga. :thumbs2:
