Seems to me that, although public funds were used to help build the facility, it is NOT publicly owned. It's a private company. I'd be happy to find that I'm wrong on this and that they cannot (legally) restrict me from carrying at a concert, but that seems to not be the case. Is this location posted 30.06? I don't find them on texas3006.com .
I was there last night and did not see a 30.06 posting.

So when I show up for the concert, get wanded, and told I cannot CHL into the building, what magic words get me inside without returning to the car or getting arrested.?

ETA:

What's the chance a security guard at AAC would understand 30.06(e)? /rhetorical /sarcasm
Sec. 30.06. TRESPASS BY HOLDER OF LICENSE TO CARRY CONCEALED HANDGUN. (a) A license holder commits an offense if the license holder:
(1) carries a handgun under the authority of Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, on property of another without effective consent; and
(e) It is an exception to the application of this section that the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under Section 46.03 or 46.035.

I think it all depends on what you feel is going to have the most impact on your life. Missing that concert you payed 250 bucks a ticket to see or making a right to carry statement to a security guard.

^^^ Stated differently....

Missing that concert you payed 250 bucks a ticket to see ... or risking a round trip from the parking lot unarmed and the possible theft of my gun locked in the car.

Really looking for a suggestion on what to say and to whom if I'm stopped at the gate....
We managed to overcome the State Fair objections. We have our own express lane in the State Capitol Building. The AAC needs fixing.

That risk exists no matter where you enter a place you are forbidden to carry. You know the place is a problem on occasion. If you are that worried about someone getting into your vehicle, don't take the weapon with you. Or... stand your ground and fight the good fight.

What do you do at any other place you are forbidden to carry? There is NOTHING you can say to them to change their minds if they don't want their minds changed for them. You can however, take a stand and sacrifice an evenings fun to make a statement. Maybe you can get them to change the way they do things. It is not posted so it may be a mute point at the circus. For all we know you would only need to show your CHL and walk on in. The CHL badge might come in handy for situations like this. ;-) The events I have attended, that don't fall under sporting events, were hit and miss on being wanded. I have never been found with my weapon at the door. For all we know they may tell you to go on in after you show your CHL.

Maybe you can "fix" the AAC. Good luck with that. Personally, I don't have the time to fix every situation I cannot carry. Wish I did. Good Luck to you. Maybe you can start a ground swell of support. :clapping:

Thinking about this.... I realized that the only places I go that are off limits are schools. I don't go to bars, Grapevine Mills is easy to avoid (courtesy of Amazon prime ;-) ). I'm not too worried about my lock box in the school parking lot for 10 minutes. Or the walk back/forth from the car. Although I have had an email chat with the Superintendent about allowing CC in the district (he wasn't very receptive, but I'm not done trying). Going to a meeting in a Church tonight, but it's not posted either.

As for "I don't have the time to fix every situation I cannot carry", sometimes I'm compelled to "do something", sometimes not. I'm not sure why this comment struck me as a bit of an accusation. Strange. We're just brainstorming here... It's entirely possible someone might have a good suggestion I (we) haven't considered. Nothing more than a few electrons spent in the effort so far.

:cheers2:

The trouble you would run into at AAC if you were wanded is that there is almost certainly nobody with any authority to talk to and/or "allow" you to go in no matter how eloquently you state your position. Unfortunately, it is just as likely a police officer (which are all over the place) would be escorting you wherever you end up. I really doubt you would end up changing anybody's mind at the time of the event. I think the most likely scenario is that you would have to go put it back in your vehicle but it wouldn't surprise me if some unknowlegeable officer decided you were a threat and you missed your event.

There is parking in a garage right across the street and there are officers everywhere. Burglarizing your vehicle in that garage would definitely be brazen IMHO.

I have never heard that any CHL holder has been turned away. We are only speculating that it would happen. I don't think it makes sense to complain about a sign that isn't posted. Until there is a test case, all we are doing is manufacturing a problem that doesn't yet exist.

Here's a pretty lengthy discussion from a few years ago that seems to pretty well outline their position at the time. Maybe some of it has changed, but I agree; trying to change this while you're standing in line at a concert probably won't work out. It needs to be addressed by prior contact with people who can actually make decisions at the AAC.

edit: forgot to add link...

Thanks.... I think I'll give them a call and see what's what currently...
Can anyone think of a reason I should NOT poke this bear? (Other than it probably being an exercise in futility)

As the OP I'd also like to thank you. My initial search did not find this. It's really sad that 6 years later we're still in the exact same spot. :banghead:

My wife and I both attended the circus on Sat night. Both armed. At the gate her bag was inspected, I was not wanded. (Here is the funny part) the security officer started to wand me and i simply said "no thanks...Im with her" and walked over to the table with her. She was carrying an M&P shield (in her bag) I was carrying a 4" XD 45 at 3:30 IWB...neither discovered. I know this post doesn't address the original question, but just thought I would throw it in the mix.

Other events at AAC I have carried at:
TSO
Ozzy Concert
Bon Jovi Concert

So far 100%

We do need to ban together and tackle this issue. Letter to the city atty perhaps?

Seems to me that, although public funds were used to help build the facility, it is NOT publicly owned. It's a private company. I'd be happy to find that I'm wrong on this and that they cannot (legally) restrict me from carrying at a concert, but that seems to not be the case. Is this location posted 30.06? Agreed that this issue would best be resolved well in advance of showing up at the gate..

I did find the correct listing after I unchecked the BPP check box... I updated that comment a few posts later... Thanks!

I'm thinking this would be a more effective approach than trying to deal with the folks at AAC... Thoughts? :bigear:

So after careful consideration I decided to carry to a concert at AAC this past weekend. We parked close enough to the door that if I had to return to the car and store the gun it would not have been any serious inconvenience. There were no posted signs and the folks with the wands only paid attention to people carrying bags that required inspection. WifeGBiv and I walked in with nothing in our hands and nobody said boo. Security theater, indeed. Michael Buble was terrific.
