Help me out! Polymer Framed Single Stack.

My EDC is a S&W M&P Shield in .40 S&W. I recently made the mistake of letting my wife shoot it and she wanted it - so, with Shields being hard to find, I purchased a Taurus PT709 in 9mm for her. The PT709 is a very nice pistol and is very close in size to the Shield. The one problem is the availability of magazines right now. It only comes with one and they are very hard to find but all in all it is a nice pistol.

I have both 709 and 740 Slims. Great CCW IMO. As for the 709 mags, they are now available again directly from Taurus as well as in market place.

As for OP's post - Recommend the stainless model in either 9 or 40, albeit the latter has a good kick recoil, plus a Kholster Little Moon IWB holster with full weapon coverage (no part contacts body) and maybe a daily wipe down with silicone cloth and kiss rust goodbye. Take it a step further and use Frog Lube CLP to further rust proof.

Well I went out today and put a few of these in my sweaty palms. So far the list runs down like this. Kahr CW9 no good the gun feels great in my hand every part of it is nice but the trigger is IMO unacceptable. The S&W M&P 9c nice looking gun the grip feels cheap and handle is too short the trigger is pretty good not quite what I like. The XD(m) 9mm Compact the size isn't exactly what I was looking for but the trigger is great in comparison to the others. So far it seems to remain on top. Then the Ruger LC9 nice gun the fit and finish seem to be fine it's actually a tad smaller than what I was looking for the trigger is nice and smooth but sooooo long. I just don't like the DA triggers. I have no doubt it would do the trick and I may purchase one just cause.

So from all this what I take away is that the XDm trigger needs to be combined the the feel of the Kahr and I would have a winner. I am really hoping that the XD-S fits the bill. Just need to get my fingers around one and I should be closer to a choice.

All else fails I am going in search of a 1911 to replace the one I had. I did look at a Colt Pro Series today and it was pretty nice but the shop that had it was way overpriced IMO. 1270.XX bux is awful steep. I could get a Ultra Carry or similar for that price.

You might also try an SR9c. Its a little bigger I think.

Have you checked to see if a smith can do a trigger job on the Kahr? if thats your only issue with that pistol, it might be an easy solution.

The Shield trigger is smoother, has a more audio/tactile perceptible reset, with minimal takeup. My 45c trigger is still gritty after 1300 rounds & lots of dry fires. I want an Apex DCAEK kit for it.

I've heard good things about Apex. Burwell also does a made to order trigger job for like $65 as well. My 9mm M&Pc ran through its grittiness after about 500 rounds, about the same length of time as the M&P FS (both 2012s). Its not as crisp as a 1911, but its relatively crisp at this point. I retained the heavy trigger pull (6.5lb) as its a carry piece.

My issue with the kahr that I handled was the position where the break was. All the way back almost as far as the trigger could be pulled. I can't find a Shield locally to handle anywhere around here. Been to three places today going to a fourth tomorrow which is also when I hope to actually make a purchase. They are having a 2nd Amendment Sell here I believe statewide. No local or state sales tax! Doesn't seem like much but it's actually 9% off! Starts tomorrow till the end of Sat.

LOL TAM. That's funny right there! Have you seen "Maters Tall Tales" if you haven't and you have ever used the term dadgum then you ought to.

I would like to get my hands on a PPS to check it out if I can find one. If I can't I am leaning towards the XD-S 9mm. I think .45 is just too much in that small of a weapon. I had a G27 and it was a handful and painful to fire after about 20 rounds. The G26 is much better but I have too many dislikes on that one. Some of which can be fixed but I can't do much about the grip there's just not enough of it there. I have thought about trying a later generation G19 with the finger grooves in the grip and I truly think that would make it a better weapon but they are still very thick framed which is why I want to go single stack.

I bought a MP Shield; but still carry my G-27 or G23 instead. Can't get over the ammo limit. My extra Mag is for the G-22.

Well I give up. This whole being out of state thing and being a military spouse is a joke. The only place that had the XD-S 9mm which is what I have decided on won't sell us the gun. They say since I am the one wanting the gun and she is the one purchasing the gun they wouldn't do it cause they consider it a straw purchase (which I would agree if we weren't a military married couple) we both even hold CHL's etc. They called ATF and that swayed them not to make the sell which I agree it's their right to deny the sell but I feel that it's a unfair decision to do so based on all the facts. In the end we are a married couple and what's hers is mine and vice versa. So the whole deal is just a fiasco. If I lived a bit closer to The Great State of Texas (which I miss more and more all the time) I would just drive there and get it myself. 380 miles is just more than I am willing to go for no other reason but this.

If any of you are familiar with this ordeal please share your experience cause I am already tired of feeling like I need to drive around with a copy of the Soldiers and Sailors Act.
