Re: Renewal Question(s)
I don't know whether to be encouraged, or not.
I applied in July and was told "just wait" the process woudl proceed after September 1st and I didn't need to do anything else.
My status check always (as late as 5 minutes ago) triggers a "waiting on the receipt of required materials" response.
I have called twice, once about 3 weeks ago and again last week. I was told, both times, a variation of "don't need to send anything more, I will place your application on a fast track for completion".
Anybody know if that means anything?
Also, I was convinced, mistaken, it looks like, that if you had an application in progress your old CHL was still valid between expiration date and arrival of new chl.
Frustrating.

Re: Renewal Question(s)
Apparently, if you applied online before 9/1 (when you would have needed a CHL-100, Certificate of Training), you app would go into a 'suspense' file, pending receipt of said CHL-100. I do not think they have gotten around to processing that suspense file. If you call ('Where's my license') they will take the app out of the suspense file and finish processing. I assume, at some point, they will get around to processing every app that is in the suspense file.
IIRC, Sherrie (from DPS) was real careful to NOT say what DPS planned to do about the grace period. Other speakers pointed out the 'law' says it has to be renewed BEFORE it expires. Charles said he thought DPS wanted to keep the grace period but was not sure they could, as specific as the law is. However, apparently, they have decided to keep the grace period BUT they could get their hands slapped. They could go back to following the law at any point. It's best to renew before it expires. Especially because you cannot carry w/o a valid license in your possession. If they are slow reissuing your renewed license, you may have to quit carrying. You do carry every day, don't you? :)

Re: Renewal Question(s)
As much as I would love to, I can't. I am a public school teacher!switch wrote:You do carry every day, don't you? :)
Even if it were passed, I doubt I would carry in school - that would not allow me to have the relationship I have with several students that need a positive role model in their lives.
Now outside of school ....

Re: Renewal Question(s)
There is still a one year grace period for renewals.
Re: Renewal Question(s)
DPS is still giving you a 1 year grace period to renew - BUT that could stop at any time. It's best to renew before it expires. Remember, you cannot carry concealed if you license expires before you get the renewed CHL.
