Start wearing it around the house as well- so it's on all the waking day... Once I did that, it only took a couple days for me to get used to it. (assuming you have a good belt and holster) You'll also confirm that you aren't printing and will stop being so fidgety and "checky."

I've been carrying for just over two years, now. Slowly the self-consciousness of it all will transition to a feeling of confidence at being armed and able to defend yourself. As far as checking to see if your junk is still there, a slight nudge with your elbow (at 3:00 on hip) is all it takes. To adjust, like at a store, just scoot around a corner end isle, check to be sure the coast is clear, make a quick adjustment (do NOT expose your weapon) and drive on. Sometimes in the summer when I adjust my shirt tail, I'll "adjust" the left side, too, so as not to draw attention to my CC. Play it cool, man.

It might help you feel better if you try to notice others who are carrying. After a while, you'll forget and stop looking. That is the common state of awareness of 99.9% of people on the street.
