I'm from La and stay away from people who open carry. I'd rather have my prostate checked than hang out with OC people

Considering the typical demeanor of Lousiana LEO's, that could happen for you.....

I thought that was only of concern in NM. :biggrinjester:

I wonder if your Subway experience had anything to do with deer season. I lived in S Louisiana from 1980 til 1983. I hunted just outside of Shreveport with my uncle. He told me that open carry was legal in Louisiana. We always stopped for coffee at a convenience store on the way home from hunting. Numerous times we walked into that store with side arms on our hip or in a shoulder rig. We never wore camo or hunter orange (wasn't required back then). Everyone was friendly, no one seemed concerned.

Maybe our demeanor caused folks to ignore us. I would argue that calm, responsible people don't create issues... with or without firearms.
My two cents,
Nick

In Lake Charles, hardly any one open carries because of the freak out factor. The small towns and unincorporated villages are where you will see more OC than the larger towns and cities.
The first place I remember seeing open carry was actually in Texas, about 1950, and then east of Lake Charles in 1957.

BTW, Podunk is an Algonquian Indian word meaning "People who live in a marshy place"; "A marshy place"; or "Friendly people."

It is also formerly a village in upstate NY, in Tompkins County just northwest of Ithaca.

Also a river which flows in the Guilford Ct area.

Didn't DPS get caught doing that recently?

I did read your post. Maybe you should be more clear sooner. Your first statement was asking about North Louisiana without mentioning the word podunk. I also realize you live in a podunk town and that is fine. Not all podunk towns fall into certain categories. Geeze.

What has that got to do with anything?
Because in La (particularly in South La) a podunk town is pretty much the only place you are going to see someone OC. North La is nothing but podunk so it's a little more likely to see someone OC up there than down south. I speak from experience as I spent most of my life in the state.

Point is, you're just as likely to win a $500 scratch off as you are to see someone OC in La. My wife can spot a bulge on someone's hip from across the room, but in the 42 years she lived in La she doesn't recall seeing a single non LEO OC. I have seen a few but only because the line of work I was in took me to a lot of podunk towns.
Nothing wrong with podunk towns, I live in one now.
You still contradicted yourself by asking if it was in North Louisiana and then changing your 'podunk' definition to fit South Louisiana.

There are 'podunk' towns in every State. There are open carry States up North. :headscratch

Open or Concealed Carry... give the people a choice.
You might want to read my post again. I stated that the only place you will ever see OC in La if you see it at all is in podunk towns. There are podunk towns in South La, but all of North La is podunk.
Geeze people, read before you post.

For the record, I could care less if you OC or not. I just want us to have the "freedom" to do so. As far as I'm concerned, I figure the BG will go after the first person he/she sees with a weapon giving me (carrying concealed) time to make a decision. :cheers2:

I asked a question in the first post and stated everything in the second post before you posted. Not sure it can be much clearer than that.
You are trying to make something out of something that simply isn't there.

In central valley of California, there are marshlands that we called the "Tules", after the tule grass wetlands [tulares]. Sometimes we used to refer being in the unpopulated agricultural areas as "being in the tules." During the rainy time of the year, the Tule fog was sometimes so thick that you could hardly see the front of your car. Even though it was legal, I never saw anyone open carry.
