Its definitely a different looking gun. At first I didn't like it all that much but the more I look at it the more I like it. If I run into one at a good enough price I might just have to grab one.

That's exactly my reaction also. The review looks very good, especially with 8 guns shooting thousands of rounds and one failure to feed. I'm impressed. The MSRP of $389 is also surprising. That will probably result in a street price around $350.

Actually, I kind of like the "semi-retro" look of the thing. The review is pretty positive and the price is right. The only thing that would keep me from buying one any time soon is that I learned a lesson by buying an XDS before the model had been on the market for a while. I still think the XDS is a great gun, but going through the recall process was a pain. I'd probably wait on an R51 until they had been on the market for a while. Also, I already have a small single stack 9mm Kahr, so the need is not that pressing. But it looks like a nifty piece.

I agree.

The list of features,how it functions, and its reliability are very impressive. The contours are perfect for snagless carry in a pocket or jacket. The simplicity of a grip safety instead of a manual safety is smart, and a 9mm pocket gun with a 1911 type trigger is very attractive and unique in the market. When you look at the asking price, what's not to like?

I think Remington's got a winner here.

I recall buying an M&P when they were still very new in the market for $350 including 4 magazines. Once the M&P brand had established itself, that pricing jumped substantially.

I would similarly expect this handgun to be introduced at an impressive price point, but then have price increases if it really creates a brand presence. Maybe I'd wait 4 months or so after initial introduction in case there are immediate recalls.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see this gun suddenly on the cover of all the typical gun rags with gushing reviews. Has anyone ever seen Guns 'n Ammo give a review that said any gun was a piece of junk?

You just have to know how to read the article to get the truth. For example the phrase "It practically disassembles itself for cleaning and other purposes" means "It blew up in our hands." While the phrase "The grip while slightly uncomfortable is textured so that it will not slip in your hand" means "When it exploded considerable portions of the firearm were imbedded the the tester's hand requiring surgery to remove." Another key phrase to look out for is "While many use the term combat accuraccy as a metric we can comfortably say this firearm hit everything it was pointed at" which means "This gun might hit what it is pointed at, however that probably isn't what you think it is pointed at."

Looks like almost a copy of the Vektor CP1.. same rounded back of the slide.. The Vektor actually has a decent single action trigger feel.. gas delayed blowback like the HK P7s..

Couldn't find out for sure, but bluing is only for steel. The frame is aluminum alloy.

This article says it has a "matte black" finish.

Your guess on what that might be is as good as mine.

Black is the color. "Matte" refers to a dull or surface that is not smooth or shiny. Most people prefer this type of finish on guns because it doesn't reflect light as much as a shiny or smooth surface.

A matte finish could be anything from bead blasting, paint, plating, anodize, etc.
