While Fred has a point he still didn't address why its OK for him to smoke Cubans while it was wrong for Michael Moore to seek Cuban heathcare. I would like to know if he is for the embargo or against it.
Has anyone proved that he smokes Cuban cigars? I mean, after all, it's Michael Moore making the accusation, and we know his reputation for veracity. Actually, I have never seen Mr. Thompson smoke a cigar, in the video he was chewing it, something I have seen several people do over the years.

He didn't deny it, and in politics this is likely an admission. As an ex Cigar smoker with a true appreciation of what a Cuban cigar is, I and most other cigar smokers think it could be an important issue.

Of course he didn't light up. There is a move underway to make cigarettes smoking movies R rated. I saw the size of them smokes he was chomping on and those are definitely XXX rated if a tiny cig is to be R rated.

Don't get me wrong I'm not getting on old Freds case it's just that after 4 months without a cigar, I'm pretty darned jealous to see him sitting there with what could be a big fat Cuban..

I thought by leaving it unsaid he drove home the point, that Moore is the true hypocrite. If he'd addressed the cigar issue, it would have become a point of contention.

I don't care if he does smoke Cubans. As Kinky Friedman says, "I prefer to think of it as burning their crops!"

Although I do not partake much anymore, about one cigar per year, I used to, and I can remember when I was in the Navy and we were in foreign ports, we could get Cuban cigars, and welcome to them as long as we did not try to bring them back to the states.

I really did not find them that special, compared to other high quality cigars, and certainly not worth the effort and illegality to obtain in preference to others.

OTOH, I don't see much point to an embargo of them, they are readily available anyway, which is pretty much my point of objection to any prohibition. I think we should let them on the market and gain revenue from the taxes that we are not getting now.

It is supposedly illegal now to smoke a Cuban even outside the United States.

It is hypocritical to me that we embargo cigars from Cuba while we can buy almost the same guns from Communist China that were killing so many Americans not so long ago.

For at least a couple of decades, it's been illegal for a U.S. citizen to do anything abroad that would be illegal at home. No one really worried about Americans smoking pot in Amsterdam, but lately they're cracking down on "sex tourists" having sex with minors in foreign countries, even if it's legal in those countries. Some other things have also gotten swept into that big net, like smoking Cuban cigars (although I'm unaware of anyone being prosecuted for firing one up in Toronto).

Speaking of the embargo... we frequently hear how Cuban impoverishment is all our fault, because we won't trade with them. Did you know we are the only nation that doesn't have free trade with Cuba? I guess the whole rest of the world can't make up for our business.
