thanks for the great laugh, and the clearance, clarence! :rolll

anyway, by definition Deadly Force means, not only death, but great physical harm, including, but not limited to, losing one's limb, or the threat of losing one's limb.

I submit for evidence, your honor, one, , my co-worker.
he was attacked by a Dawg. not a dog. a Dawg!
he was forced to protect his wife (pushed her out of the way, she fell, was slightly injured), and took a severe bite on the upper arm (humerus).
Could have punctured his artery, pert near did, and he'da been up that creek we all know so well.
without a paddle.
not to mention infection (yes, I realize how clean a dog's mouth is....), blood loss alone could have affected not only his arm, but his life.

sounds like Deadly Force came into play in that situation, don'tcha think?
but I hear ya, people don't really need to cap a dog everytime one rolls up on'em.

A stray dog with a violent enough demeanor to attack a person may very well have rabies. That is a life-threatening scenario. In most of the circumstances discussed (letter carriers, service personnell, etc.) it would be very unlikely that those dogs have rabies. However, a stray dog is an entirely different scenario, and IMO would be a much more likely situation to warrant lethal force. Additionally, a mailman is just as likely (if not more) to have an encounter with a rabid stray dog as anyone else. Where I live, the mail carriers park and walk from house to house delivering mail.

You are taking my quote out of context as I was not talking about stray dogs, but household pets. FWIW, rabies is not life-threatening unless your religious beliefs preclude getting proper medical treatment. Not that I would allow my self to be bitten knowing that.
