Re: Ruger Mini-14
The ruger mini 14 is a great all around rifle. It has been years since ruger overhauled the manufacturing process of the parts and the barrels, but since it has been done(which was years ago) their accuracy is greatly improved. You can expect 1.5-2.5" accuracy at 100 yards, depending on the type of ammo. Just remember, you need to experiment with a few types of quality ammo to find which one the mini likes. And by the way, the mini is incredibly durable. My mini handles great, and has yet to give me any problems.

Re: Ruger Mini-14
I have had a newer (580 series) Mini-14 for about 5 or so years. It was bought the second or third year after they retooled that production line. Ruger did some upgrades over the older Minis such as making the barrel a bit thicker, as well. It's mostly been shot at 50 yards, and with my shooting skills I'll never win a bullseye competition, but I always got ~2 inch groups with the irons and running cheap ammo through it. I'm sure they've got the process at Ruger down now, and so perhaps Ruger's claim of 2 inches at 100 yards is accurate.

Re: Ruger Mini-14
Range Report:
The 582 series rifle arrived this morning with 2 magazines and received a thorough cleaning. A Redfield BattleZone 6-18x44 was used to fully check accuracy. Shooting Hornady 55gr V-Max from a Caldwell Lead Sled on a Champion Scorekeeper Rifle Sight In target at 100 yards. This Ruger Mini-14 groups well under 1" at 100 yards with the best groups inside 3/4". (4 shot groups) This is much better than I hoped for after reading all the issues posted across the internet for the last 20 years. Ruger has done an awesome job with this rifle.
My father said this was absolutely a fun rifle to shoot and it threw brass 15 feet. I can't wait to shoot it...

Are you still going to get the trigger job done?

Re: Ruger Mini-14
Talked to my dad this morning about the trigger and he said it was fine so I'm going to shoot it before I decide. He also left the scope on it so that puts me in a quandary.
Might be hard to take it off to zero those iron sights after I shoot a few rounds with it. I need to stay focused on "Truck Gun".
I know nothing about Mini-14's. Any parts I need to stock?

Don't think so. Maybe lots of magazines(Ruger brand). I know mine is an old one but it never liked aftermarket mags.

Re: Ruger Mini-14
They indeed are picky about magazines, especially the 20+ rounders. I keep one of my minis in the closet with one of my proven 10 round mags in it and a few spare proven 20 round mags on the shelf. If I remember correctly the largest Ruger produced were 20 round.glbedd53 wrote:Don't think so. Maybe lots of magazines(Ruger brand). I know mine is an old one but it never liked aftermarket mags.

I agree, only use ruger mags. They do make 30 rounders. I have three in the package I might be willing to sell if someone wants them.anygunanywhere wrote:They indeed are picky about magazines, especially the 20+ rounders. Re: Ruger Mini-14
I forgot if I had 20 or 30 round magazines for my old Mini-14 but they wouldn't feed properly if filled to capacity for some reason.
