Thank you so much for your kind, detailed, and well-informed opinion. Tell us please, how may of those "30 dollar autos" have you evauated? I'm guessing that number is somewhere south of one.

Boker happens to be a very well respected knife maker. This particular model has an AUS8 blade attached to aluminum scales and all secured with stainless steel hardware. These are things you could have known yourself if you'd actually read the description and specs that are readily available in the link I provided.

After checking out multiple reviews on the knife and finding nothing but positive remarks, I ordered one. I checked it over and I'm impressed with how rugged it really is. With very little effort, I put a shaving-sharp edge on it and it holds up very well.

A couple of friends, as well as my son, decided to order them after checking out mine.

Enjoy your Kershaw. I understand they do make fine knives. Slamming something you know nothing about makes only yourself look bad.

Pawpaw was much more diplomatic than what I wrote and then deleted.
Something about the tone of NYJ's post made me feel like I was coming down with something.

This is a great place for constructive disagreement.. When it's constructive.

I almost ordered that knife from Amazon earlier today... Same price, free shipping with Prime.
Then I read the Amazon description... non-Automatic.
Same knife name, same "74".... different function.

For $30-ish bucks from a tier-I brand name, worst case I bet they'll take it back if I don't like it.
Likely case? It's plenty enough for my first auto-folder. YMMV

I'm no knife expert but the guy I know who is and carries for backup prefers small fix blades. His set up is a kydex sheath attach to his belt. His set up was a bit pricey but I have a similar low cost set up with an Izula using their stock sheath and paracord. Great little knife you can also pocket carry and flip sheath off with you thumb. Lots of info and videos out there on Izulas. GL.

Foreign made automatic knives cannot be imported into the US. Boker sells them without the spring. Several companies, like BladeHQ does the conversion (basically installs the spring) and sells it as an auto.

Yes. BladeHQ has a 20-day return policy with a 5% restocking fee for non-defective returns. When your order arrives, the back of your invoice will have pretty much all the info you might need.

ADDED AS AN AFTERTHOUGHT: Apparently, it is pretty common for automatic knives that see hard use (like opening it a lot, just because it's cool ;-) )to break the spring. BladeHQ sells a replacement 2-pack of springs for this knife for $5.99. http://www.bladehq.com/item--2-Kalashnikov-Knife--109

No need to get so long winded over my opinion. I'm sure it's a fine EDC knife, but you do get what you pay for, and I'd say the same about my cheap kershaw. AUS8 nothing I'm going to cut anything other than boxes with. Especially when I don't know how it has been treated.

I'm pretty sure nyj has recommended the ZT knives in another thread and I checked them out. Great looking tough knives, but I just can't swallow the price. That's pert near close to another gun that'd probably fit into a nice ankle holster as a backup. So far, the only knife I've broken was the tip off a Kershaw Blur trying to dig a bullet out of a log it had nearly gone all the way through. I know, :banghead: , I didn't even realize I had broken it for about a month.

I don't tend to use my knives, with the above exception and a lesson that I've learned, for uses other than their intended use. There are far better tools for those other uses.

I agree. I stick to cheap knives for EDC and rarely carry the ZT. I've accidentally thrown knives away before, and I would hate to do that with a $300 knife.

My comment on that auto sticks, though. Auto knives are already vulnerable to breaking. Even $200 benchmade's have been known to fail. It's a risk you take with that style of opening.

I personally carry a back up gun. If an assailant is 20 or 30 feet from me and shooting at me a knife would be almost useless.

If my primary gun (Kimber .45) fails, I have a Beretta .32 in a pocket holster.
