Let me fix that part of the article:The man believed the gun was unloaded, but it wasn't and it discharged, hitting him in the stomach.
"The man did not check to see if the firearm was loaded before pulling the trigger. He shot himself in the stomach."
I hate when articles make it sound like it's the gun's fault for discharging. The gun discharged. No, someone fired the gun. A gun doesn't fire on its own. (Except for rare cases of malfunction.)
