Fenix makes a good quality flashlight for sure. The one you picked out is a nice one for camping because of the SOS feature. I'm not so sure that I would want an EDC flashlight with that feature. I'd much rather have the strobe feature.

I'd say shop around. Deal Extreme is a great website to search for flashlights. Their selection is endless.

Oh they do. You might have to dig a little, but it'll be worth it. I'm on the Deal Extreme website right now, and searched for AA LED flashlights, and it came back with 230 to select from:

They make fairly good quality flashlights. I have a Trustfire, ST-50. It's insanely bright and puts out a crazy 1300 lumens(claimed). It's not EDC. It's more of a search light.

Careful when looking for flashlights! They can become addictive! And like guns, you can never have to many!

I know what you mean! I don't have any searchlights [yet] so I think I need to order one.

I just recently started buying from DX. I have no complaints except that it takes a while to get some of their stuff.

I have a Fenix LD20 and the tailcap button doesn't reliably turn the thing on - often I have to shake or tap it for it to come on. I've switched out the actual button with no real improvement. I still really like the light though given that I can use it at the low setting without lighting up the whole room but yet it goes to 180ish lumens with a twist of the bezel. I just don't use it for any kind of potentially tactical purpose.

I typically carry a Streamlight Stylus Pro - uses (2) AAA and has momentary on and only one setting. If I remember right it puts out ~45 lumens. Super slim - it basically disappears in jean-type pockets or in a standard back pocket.

They don't carry well (no clip), but I bought a 3 pack of TechLight somethin or anothers at Costco a while back. They use (3) AAA batteries and go from really bright to very bright to very bright w/ strobe. These are stationed around the house as go-to lights for most uses.

I NEED MORE FLASHLIGHTS!! I'm going to have to check out that deal extreme site.

I have a Fenix single AAA LD02, and a single AA E12, that I alternate carry with. Both have tailcap switch lo, medium, and high. Both top 100 lumens on high, and have a pleasantly dim low.

Love them. I expect to be carrying them or their replacements the rest of my life.

Amazing how many times day or night they come in handy.

I also have a boatload of Eneloop rechargeable AAA and AA batteries, so these lights never lack for replacement batteries, though they both have an incredible runtime.

I think I am going to pick up the Fenix and 2-3 of the $4 dollar ones suggested. I don't want anytbing to carry that the beam gets adjusted by turning the head. I also want AA. From everything I want I think it's the best bet for under or around $40.00 because I still have to buy a better light for work.

Why not just buy some rechargeable 123's and a good charger? I have three Surefire flashlights and I use rechargeable 123's (well I have two rechargeable 18650's as well) with all of them. Batteries last a long time and I am not constantly having to buy new batteries.

My EDC light is a Surefire EB1. When I go out at night I usually keep a spare 123 in my pocket just in case the battery goes out. Super bright and it has a bright and low setting. Only downside (and I'm not sure if it's just because they are rechargeables or not) is when the battery gets low, there is no warning and it goes out, which is why I carry the spare. I do have a meter so I check the battery if I think I might need it (going to the movies, visiting friends that live in bad neighborhoods, etc.) or just swap in a fresh battery. Not cheap but so worth it.

I use the Sure Fire Fury, it uses a 123 battery. It's about 4 years old and still works great.

I like the idea of length of a single AA plus the availability of it, but with what I have looked at for exactly what I am wanting may have no choice. All these lights have a "zoom" or 5 functions. I just need momentary, high, or low. With the momentary staying on high as the first mode.

I was reading a few days ago about a DIY Foursevens. May go that route.

Try the Streetlight Protac 1AA. I have used this thing for the past four years or so, in desert sandstorms and the wonderful wetness of the Pacific Northwest. It has been absolutely perfect. Momentary press=high, click=high, and triple momentary press gets you low (2 presses gets you a strobe that I don't use). And it runs about $40.

Can anyone tell me what is the difference between a regular flashlight and a "tactical flashlight"?

That's the light I was thinking about but a few reviews made it sound like the momentary starts on low? But if that's the case i am sold on that light because price, size, good reputation warranty wise. My main work light will be the protac USB if the darn things every come in stock. Could I preorder it ? Yeah but had bad luck with stuff like that in the past so I'll wait.
