I use 124 gr Speer Gold Dot. I have a Glock 17 Gen 4, and I keep the smaller beavertail backstrap on it. Without a backstrap it is a little too small for me.

Even seems easier than my Hi-Power. I put them on our food scale and found the G22 weighs about 6 oz. less fully loaded. That must be the difference.

If I were to get a 23, 19 or 42, I probably wouldn't even realize I had a gun on. The size/dimension of the gun seems ALMOST irrelevant.

I think you made a good choice.
Your post made me go weigh two guns I have on my wife's kitchen scale, including a loaded spare mag for each.......
  • Springfield XD(M)-45 Compact 3.8, 9+1 230 grain HSTs in the gun, plus one spare 13-round magazine with 230 grain HSTs.............weight: 3 lb, 3/8 oz. (48.375 oz)
  • Glock 17 9mm, 17+1 115 grain XTPs in the gun, plus one spare 17 round magazine with 115 grain XTPs........weight: 2 lb, 10-1/4 oz. (42.25 oz)

So........another way to look at it is:
  • 23 rounds of .45 ACP in a 48-3/8 oz package, versus
  • 35 rounds of 9mm in a 42-1/4 oz package.
I am a .45 guy at heart, and I prefer shooting my Springfield to either my G17 or my wife's G19, but I've found that my G17 conceals just as easily as my XD(M), and it carries more easily because the package is noticeably lighter. The Glock is still a butt-ugly pistol, but I honestly can see the sense of why people like to carry them.....at least in 9mm (The G30 and G21 are just too wide). The G19 is even lighter than the G17.......and still provides you with a 31 round package. Granted, 115 grain rounds don't weigh that much, and the package weight would go up with 124 grain bullets (115 XTPs were what I had on hand that weren't FMJ, and I haven't gotten around to trying heavier loads yet), but even with the G17 and 124 grain bullets, we'd be talking about an additional .72 oz, for an all-up weight that's still 5.4 oz less than the XD(M).

TAM, I've never really been a huge fan of the Glock over some of my other guns. However, after carrying the G22 for a few days now, I'm becoming a fan of the ugly gun. I'll probably be getting one of my own before long.

It's amazing how much difference just a few ounces make.

I've been carrying a Glock 19 with a loaded spare mag for many a moon.

Ugly, nah.

Utilitarian, yes.

I'm an average shot with it, so I have to constantly practice to keep up my (such as they are) skills.

Funny, as I have been shooting Glocks since about 1995 and never thought of them as ugly. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I went from a 1911 to a Glock 19 years ago.

Lighter, higher capacity. Love both guns (and frankly love most pistols) but the G19 is a pretty perfect combination of size, weight, capacity, reliability and price.

Once I get my P01 Cajunized it may replace my G19 as my EDC....but probably not.
