ok, I have a question....

This doesn't really pertain to me directly since the front door of my hospital / university has a huge 30.06 sign on the front door, but I'm curious as to how you're allowed to carry in a hospital and a university. I thought the law was pretty clear that that wasn't allowed and would supersede any policy the institution put out.

i'm also curious if anyone in a similar situation to mine carries discretely in spite of a 30.06 sign. Not that I ever would <grin>... i'm asking for a friend.

From the frequently asked questions at the end of the 2005-2006 Texas Concealed Handgun law booklet:

http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ftp/forms/ls-16.pdf

Q: Where can I not take my handgun?
A: Handguns and other weapons cannot be carried at schools or on
school buses, at polling places, in courts and court offices, at racetracks,
at secured airport areas or within 1,000 feet of the premises of
an execution on the day of execution. The law also specifically
prohibits handguns from businesses where alcohol is sold if more than
half of their revenue is from the sale of alcohol for on-premises
consumption, and from locations where high school, college or professional
sporting events are taking place. You may not carry handguns in
hospitals or nursing homes, amusement parks, places of worship or at
government meetings if signs are posted prohibiting them. Businesses
also may post signs prohibiting handguns on their premises based on
criminal trespass laws. See Texas Penal Code § 46.035.

DOH (smacks head)

I guess we just glossed over that bolded part in the class.

That would have been very useful information to stress. I've disarmed MANY times when I didn't really need to then.

I read the book from cover to cover too and i glossed over that little nugget of info as well. Bad jedi! Bad! No wookie for me.

It was once illegal to carry in a hospital....that has changed (thankfully).
