My contacts with Arabs leads me to think training might be a real hurdle. I remember reading a book about WWII in North Africa written by Major Popski, of Popski's Private Army. Those are beautiful pictures all right, but those scenes are vastly different when you are on the street in those places in my brief experience, Cairo especially. The tourist brochures are breathtaking but not accurate compared to what you find driving around. Tijuana looks like Beverly Hills by comparison.

In between taking care of the business I came to handle, I toured the several big mosques in Istanbul and was very much impressed, and the hotel I stayed in on the Bospherous, the Curagan Palace Kempinski was opulent indeed. But squalor, poverty and suffering was everywhere else pretty much.

Those are the worst to serve as soldiers.
Not everyone can be hired to be soldiers. Good Iraqi Soldiers were The Iraqi Republican guards, now fighting with ISIS or controlling their operations.

I just went back and looked at a bunch of the videos from the news, and it appears to me that the OP is right, the vast majority of those fleeing appear to be male in that age range. Are they fleeing mandatory conscription?

Yes, either would be drafted by ISIS or Assad regime.
But countless of Families are also immigrating to Europe.

Yeah, my posts is that In the Arab world we build things and sometime big things. But, what you stated is correct even in our ole US. Can anyone imagine that this is Great Motor City of Detroit?

We are quite blessed to live in U.S.A.---especially Texas. The only reason I would want to flee Texas is the summer heat.

Would be tough for the "bad guys" to win here with our multiple layers of protection: U.S. Active Military, National Guard, State Guard, Tx. Dept. of Public Safety, city and county LEO and lastly our good citizen militia.

As for the second video you posted. The US soldier is 100% correct, maybe those soldiers had their loyalty for this guy:

Maybe they are bunch of cowards who joined the police for $600 monthly salary. As I said, not everyone Iraqi loved US forces. And, I am sure that some recruits are moles for anti-US forces. Moreover, It is Bush who trusted or did not trust a bunch of Iraqi clowns who were organized under the National Iraqi Council. I hated Iraq war as it did not serve the US interest nor the ME interest.

Yep! We declared a War on Poverty ~50 years ago, and in many places, poverty won.

I'm far from expert at this stuff, but my impression is that the poor in the US would be viewed as tycoons by the really poor people I saw in Cairo. The guide who won the privilege of guiding us around the British Museum gave me the impression he had never had $100 in his life, nor could he reasonably aspire to be that wealthy.

Yep.. Yep... Really poor means you live on $10 or less per person per day.

The picture of the Clock Tower in Mecca is surprising considering that also pictured below it is the holiest place in Islam the Ka'ba shrine. It is hard to believe the same people who are creating Las Vegas next to their shrine are also destroying their history all over the world.

Tea Party Network is reporting that the FBI is investigating finger prints on old IED from Iraq, as they suspect many former Iraqi bomb makers are now refugees in the US.

Wouldn't that be comforting to know that skilled bomb makers are in the US training newbies on how to make successful IED's.
