A good boxing coach can make a big difference. George St Pierre had a tremendously successful career taking fighters to the ground and wearing them down while scoring technical points. Towards the end of his career even the great St Pierre saw the need to expand his skill set and started training with Freddie Roach. By gosh he developed into a solid boxer. While never a powerhouse hitter, he could stand and strike with anyone in the game...while waiting for an opportunity to take them down and wear them out while scoring technical points.
A good boxing coach could bring a new level to Rousey, but you're right Abraham. At this point her brand is getting pretty big and I don't know that continuing to fight is the best thing for her. Her best career move could well be to hang it up, retire undefeated, and go on to Hollywood. Like most professional athletes, MMA will destroy your body. Best to have a brilliant and short career if possible.

karder wrote:Rousey is a great fighter for sure, but I think she is like the Gracie's back in the infancy of the UFC. The Gracie's had brilliant Jiu-Jitsu and they dominated. As more fighters from wider backgrounds became involved in MMA, the sport evolved so that just being great at Jiu-Jitsu (or any other single discipline) is no longer enough. Today's sport, requires a more broadly developed fighter who can strike and has a solid ground game.

Rousey has textbook Judo. She reminds me a little of Fedor Emelianenko in that her Judo is near perfect, except that Fedor was a devastating striker. Rousey does Judo beautifully, but she is a bit of a one-trick pony. Much like the Gracie family (who I am also a very big fan of). I think that as the pool of female fighters broadens with more exposure to the sport, Rousey will have to step up her game, as odd as that sounds. Her pool of competition is very shallow compared to her male counterparts, but that is going to change.

As far as her attitude, I think that is a an act. She trains with Nick and Nate Diaz she is clearly taking some cues from their ring manners. They have a crappy attitude and she started emulating it a couple of years ago.

All that said, she is a great talent.
Speaking of the Diaz brothers, poor misunderstood Nick just took a 5 year ban for his 3rd positive drug test. Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

I don't think anyone can beat Ronda right now, she is so far ahead of everyone else. Personally though she has gotten on my nerves and don't really care for her as much. She always has to turn every fight into a cry for attention about her. Like her last fight against Bethe she had to turn a simple statement of "I hope she doesn't commit suicide when I beat her" (Bethe made the statement) into a cry about saying Bethe was making fun of her dad committing suicide. When Bethe never even knew her dad did that but Ronda cries about every fighter for something trying to turn everything like she is some victim. Fighters always make statements like that or says things about the other fighters, she does it. But you don't see the other fighters trying to turn stuff around and sound like a victim. Her acting is down right horrible, she better be glad she can fight cause she can't act one single bit. She is a killer fighter and like I mention I have respect for that but her personally don't have much respect for her.

muhammad ali dished a big load nonsense that made many hate him.

He admitted he made outrageous outbursts in order for people to dislike him.

Why?

It put more butts in seats to see him get clobbered.

Not my kind of PR, but it works.

yea he was the best at it, but i think there is a huge difference between what she does and what ali did -- ali talked smack to get into someone's head and sell fights -- she turns everything into a look feel bad for me type deal -- she did it with bethe, cigano and tate taking the look i'm a victim route when she talked just as much smack and hate towards them -- and the deal with cyborg, honestly i feel she will beat cyborg if they ever fight and probably beat her easily but with all the crying and excuses just makes her look horrible -- cyborg has never fought at 135lbs and has major problems making 145lbs -- when in strikeforce ronda fought at 145lbs but when ufc bought strikeforce ronda wanted to go down to 135 so dana and ufc created 135 class -- in Olympics she competed at 170lbs, she keeps saying fight me at 135 and refuses to meet at 140 catch weight -- sort of like the pac-man / mayweather ordeal for many yrs -- ronda also throwing up cyborg and steroids, yea she was hit one time but has been clean ever since -- ronda should just quit with the b/s and face her at 140 like tate agreed and said she would do -- got to respect fighters willing to make the fights and not the ones finding or saying anything to not make the fight happen, and like i said to me ronda will walk straight through cyborg
