Re: Can't help it. I love .22's.
I'm right partial to my CZ 452's and various Ruger rifles and handguns. In fact more so than to my self-defense, CC eargessplitten loudenboomers.
I have some .22 bullets and really need/want to go shoot a few of 'em if it'll ever cool off - like in Fall. ITMT, I'll just step out onto the patio and shoot my pellet guns until I get hot/tired and then I'll step back into the AC.

I've never shot a CZ but I know they are great rifles. I have several Ruger SA .22's including a Bearcat. They are great little revolvers. My oldest daughter is a deadeye w/ my Super Single Six Ruger.Oldgringo wrote:I'm right partial to my CZ 452's and various Ruger rifles and handguns. The 999 is a neat little pistol. I just missed out on a 939 Sidekick yesterday on a local online auction. I would have won it but the website went bonkers just as I hit my bid increase. I also missed a High Standard .380.Middle Age Russ wrote:I am a sucker for .22s, too. To date I haven't owned a few different action types in this chamber -- break action, Martini action, rolling block and revolver -- but I hope to get a revolver before too long (if anyone knows where I can find a model 999 Sportsman or a Dan Wesson in good shape for a reasonable price, please let me know). Presently my rifles are all semi-auto except for a little Marlin lever gun. Pistols are three different semi-autos.
I am glad to see better availability of ammo, but it sure would be nice to see plinking ammo near 3 to 5 cents a round instead of 10.

Yeah, it's been a great ride. She tried out a cousin's Savage Rascal one day with me at the range, and she got the bug. My fantastic BIL found out and had her first (pink) Crickett on the way from NC to a local FFL within the hour, and she shot that for a few years. Last year at Christmas, the first thing on her list was "more ammo".puma guy wrote:That's a very pretty pink plinker! She's quite a shooter! We got her the (pink) 10/22 for Christmas last year, and Santa brought her 2500 rounds of ammo. A week later, we painted up one of my ammo cans a nice pink hue, and have slowly filled it to the top with loose pack ammo.
She doesn't know it, but she has a (yes, pink, of course) Walther P22 in my safe, just waiting for her to be ready to try it out. And - lucky me - she asked just two days ago if I could teach her to shoot a 22 pistol now!

Just as an FYI, two West Houston Academy's had, this evening, Federal Champion lead for 4.6 cents a round. 2.29 for 50 or 22.90 for 500.Middle Age Russ wrote: I am glad to see better availability of ammo, but it sure would be nice to see plinking ammo near 3 to 5 cents a round instead of 10.

I was in the Buda Cabelas yesterday.....they had 1000 round bricks of a couple brands I've never seen before, some 333, and lots of 100 rounds boxes of Remington and Winchester....no limits.n5wd wrote:Our local Cabelas has .22 ammo in stock almost all the time, now - quite often without any limits. Mail order, a lot of folks are using http://midsouthshooterssupply.com with good resultd if you're looking for something other than cheap ammo. For instance: Norman 22LR 40gram target loads are 50/$5.95 in stock right now, as is 2500 rounds of Tactical 22LR 40grain target for $249.50, also in stock.
Can't hardly use 'lack of ammo' as an excuse any more.

I saw some of that Tactical 22 at Cabelas the other day and passed on it because id never heard of it before. None. That's one of the off brands I was referring to, but couldn't remember the name. I might have tried it but I'm ok on 22 ammo and didn't feel like spending $100 on a 1,000 round box. Lately I've just been picking up the more rare 22 like CCI mini-mags and velocitor, or the CCI AR 22, when available.Taypo wrote:I saw some of that Tactical 22 at Cabelas the other day and passed on it because id never heard of it before. Luckily i've got a few thousand 42gr mini-mags from the pre extinct days. Love that stuff.VMI77 wrote:None. That's one of the off brands I was referring to, but couldn't remember the name. Re: Can't help it. I love .22's.
I've see good supplies at Academy stores. They always have the premium target and match ammo. I just bought some bulk .22 at Walmart on I-20 and 287. Remington 525pk HP Golden Bullet $27.57 , Winchester M-22 1000pk $49.97 and Federal AutoMatch 325pk $16.97. There was a purchase limit of 3 and the young man said I couldn't buy three of the same kind.Taypo wrote:Luckily i've got a few thousand 42gr mini-mags from the pre extinct days. before the drought occurred and still have plenty of .22 ammo. Academy sells Federal Eagle for $2.19-2.39/ Bx 50 (.044 round)and I think that's about as cheap as it's ever going to be for the future.

The Win M-22 is pretty good stuff. No experience with the Federal though.

I have been reserving my mini-mags because that's all some of my 22s will shoot reliably.Taypo wrote:Luckily i've got a few thousand 42gr mini-mags from the pre extinct days. The federal is Match grade for semi-autos as the name implies. I saw some reviews on Rimfire Central that looked good.Taypo wrote:The Win M-22 is pretty good stuff. No experience with the Federal though.
