That is the most likely case. The ignition might be a bit tight on a new gun that smooths out over time.
Or there may be a bit of gummed up oil causing some initial disconnector binding.

Have you lubed the disconnector? If not, try to put a drop of oil on it then work it up and down a few times.

Not sure where you are, but Ken Bee out of Gun Barrel City is the man when it comes to 1911 work.

I think gun barrel is pretty far away.
I do know about the collet upgade. Its a tuff call to modify a near perfect vintage gold cup. Even harder when it never get used.
As far as a 1911 being an issue, I have many options to choose from. This one is special to me.

I never told the OP to get a glock, I just implied to get something else. And if you consider having to replace a striker block with a burr on it (that still would have fired fine by the way) some huge awful malfunction... then we have some pretty vast differences of opinion. That may very well have been the only QC issue with Glock for that entire month... it just happened to be with me, and I happened to have a spare.

Along those lines, I would never sincerely talk down to anyone about their weapon choice. A 1911 is better than no gun at all. It is called a joke... laugh a little. I get a little chuckle from the old fudds who joke about glock grenades. It is all in good fun.

Thanks Mike... That would help, but I don't like to use a lot of emoticons. I will try to do better at that.

That's why I had him strip the slide and try it again, but it's still giving him that grinding with a bare slide, apparently.

Do you have another slide you could try in case its really the slide-to-frame contact that's really the issue? I'm only suggesting that as it was previously mentioned maybe the pistol hasn't really been broken in. Any idea how many rounds have been put through it in total?

A quick update, made it out to the gun smith today. All is fine, its a really tight near Mint never shot original colt.
The gun smith even drooled a little bit.
