So calling twice is too much???
The last time I renewed my Instructor's Certificate, Sherrie, the lady from RSD, said they were processing 23,000 applications per month. How would it be if each applicant called twice? What is to be gained after one is informed that they have everything and are working the application?

10 1/2 weeks and we were told it would be longer when I took my prints. Never called, just glad to get it earlier than expected.

I remember when my father and I got our chl. I sent my paper work in 2 weeks before he did. He got his license before I did. I wasn't impressed.

Making DPS mad is akin to coming unhinged on a waitress before you get your food. Not really a good idea...

Just the opposite here - I submitted my application about two weeks before my sons. They got theirs, two weeks later I still hadn't. Snickering was heard, along with comments about daft old Dad's letters to Congress coming home to roost.
When I called, I found there were attachments that hadn't been forwarded with my application. Seems like they found something internally, and I forwarded another copy of my CHL class form. Probably a week later I had my card.
'Course, it's not just a license for carrying a gun - it's a charge to show that gun people are all 12 points of the Scout law, all the time, without anyone realizing a gun is in the equation. Or at least that's how it seems to me. Hope I hit the mark.

My neighbor sent in his renewal 3 days before me. He got his new card in 10 days, mine took 3 weeks. I figure he hit the batch process at just the right time and mine skipped to the next batch. That's life.
IMO, DPS is doing a great job staying on top of things. Anything less than a month for all the paperwork, a background check, card printing and USPS is pretty fast, IMO.

Doesn't necessarily mean it's in the mail but it has been issued.
