So a +1 for an in-person apology and some cookies. You might be able to start with a simple, "I am really embarrassed about something that happened the other day..." Then go on from there.

I had a similar incident in reverse. My next door neighbors had a party with a kids bounce house set up right outside my bedroom. The party went from about 5pm. to a little past midnight. It was on a Saturday, so it wasn't as bad if it would have been a week night, but still a slight annoyance. Anyway, the next morning my neighbor came over and apologized for the loud noise and asked if he could go into my back yard to pick up some trash the kids had thrown over the fence into my yard. I told him not worry about it and I would get the trash myself (I have a large dog that doesn't like strangers in his territory). I was appreciative that he did that even though I wasn't too upset about it in the first place. So long story short, I would suggest a short apology in person from you would go a long way.

Waited for the husband to get home and walked over to the neighbors last night to apologize in person. I told the I was embarrassed that friends had acted like that on my property and apologized if it had disturbed them. All I got was a blank stare and then a short "You had people at your house on Saturday?"

They hadn't heard or seen a thing, which is, in short, amazing. Still feel like I did the right thing, as it was a relief that they hadn't been bothered.

Yes, but you score points for being a good neighbor. Always a positive thing!

It can take years to develop a good relationship and only minutes to destroy it. Going over and talking to your neighbor was the right thing to do. Good on you for trying to make things right.

I would not mail them a letter because if things do happen to go south with your neighbors, that letter can be used against you.

Well done! You set the stage for a reciprocal apology if and when in addition to showing them that you care.
