Thanks Greg, the comment was meant rather tounge in cheek.

I know but anyone who has been through a TCLEOSE academy just loves to dig out that old really thick yellow book! Just like if I asked what the maximum speed limit on a beech was! (Everyone told me without fail that it would be on my TCLEOSE test and sure enough it was...

It's not quite off-topic to talk about people threatening your life because your lawful activity offends them.

You are correct. However, discussing the finer points of traffic law is probably not on topic.
But hey, this is your forum, so feel free. I just feel sorry for poor phddan who's had quite a time trying to share his story of getting threatened only to provoke conversations about cycling.
Carry on.

Phddan.. congratulations on your diplomacy.. the old bird is a little off the deep end obviously. However, don't take his threats lightly, as one day he might make good on them as his dimensia deepens..
You might try to find out if he has any kids/family that look after him, as they might (temporarily) be able to talk some sense into him. However, if he's falling victim to Alzheimers Rage, then he shouldn't be allowed to own a weapon and his family has the responsibility to handle that while they can before something happens.

para driver,
I really do try not to be confrontational, especially around the home front area. And yeah, the old bird is a little off. But that runs in the family evidently. I've been getting alot of the history of his family in the last couple of days.
As far as kids/family goes, most of them are of the same mind set, and the ones that aren't, he aint going to listen to. A clan type mentality.
I also found out this makes the third time he has threatened to shoot someone out here over perceived right of way and property line intrusions.
Still waiting for a detective to call.
We, the president of the hoa, the owner of the land on which part of the easement is on, which is the old mans nephew, and the developer that bought the land, and myself, are arranging a get together to talk about the situation and get all the cards on the table, so hopefully there won't be any more misunderstandings.

The old mans nephew is a good ol boy. We talked about an hour Sunday and came up with the idea of getting everyone together on the same page, so to speak.
Aint no worries.

Update,
Just called the investigator for this case, and it has been placed on the back burner, due to the weather situation, which I totally understand.
He did say it was being investigated as a "terroristic threat".

Dang... folks yelling at you for riding a horse by their house (my daughter and wife would be out in a minute, daughter had a Paso Fino), riding a bike by their house... I've got a few folks that love to walk their dogs past the house and leave a "present" or two, which doesn't bother me too much. I do get irritated by folks that stop by our fence and antagonize my hound mix, apparently just to hear him bark/bay/woof and pound on the fence. FYI I have not made any terroristic threats against anyone, not even the dog teasers...
Seriously what is up with folks being so all around ugly to their neighbors?

A general lack of respect for others...
And that respect is being classified (in our growing pop culture) as being subservient to others...A weakness...
So it appears the trend is to be antagonistic, disrespectful and outraged that anyone would not expect you to be respectful of them...
I would rather earn respect, and not expect it...
Than to demand it for no reason, and have it broadcast for everyone to see...Its such a wasteful way to live...
Just my take on it...

SD64,
You're right on the money. Consideration is seen by some (those poorly raised) as weakness. I guess those of us who feel differently need to double our efforts to demonstrate proper behavior and manners.
I must say that my three kids have turned out to be respectful and courteous. Like anyone else, they may discuss an interaction after the fact, but they understand how to interact properly and respectfully. Shoot, I have my bad days and miss opportunities to "do right", but generally try to set the right tone. You'd be surprised at how many folks can be influenced and reminded by a small demonstration or example.
All in all, there's a lot more good than bad out there.
