Tennifer is not the black coating that you see on the outside, it is a coating underneath that that you do not see. If a slide is cerakoted, the black coating will be removed, not the tennifer, and then the cerakote will be applied over it.

When I have made mistakes in Cerakoting I have had a hard time removing it. I dont have a sandblaster and it takes a while to wire wheel off. It is very tough stuff when cured properly.

I had a 1911 done professionally and it showed holster wear at the front of the slide and contact point wear at several points in about a year.

Overall it still looked pretty good but I was disappointed that it wasn't more durable.

If I had to do it over, I would use a finish that penetrates the metal.
