My local Academy has the Ruger but they will NOT remove gun lock so you can hold it but not really try it before you buy. I want to feel the trigger.
Thank you all for assistance.
That is Academy's policy for all firearms. Something I appreciate when I buy the display model.

Took the plunge today and bought the Ruger SR1911. Full size, was on sale at Atwood's and this was the last one they had. Wonderful trigger pull and feels really good in the hand. They let you fully handle the gun in the store. Will test fire tomorrow and see how it shoots. Will give a report tomorrow.

Make sure you clean and lube it.

For the Ruger SR1911 that I got yesterday. Range results. Winchester white box 230 gr, PMC 230 gr. Remington 230 gr. all FMJ. Shot a total of about 100 using included 7 and 8 rd mags. Gun fired perfectly, no FTF or FTE. I did clean it before going to the range but it came out of the box pretty clean and didn't require anything. I put a little grease on the slide but that was it. Don't have any hollow point or lead reloads (yet). All of the brass landed pretty much in the same area so easy to pick up. A fun gun to shoot although my accuracy leaves a lot to be desired using 5" target at 10 yards and not bench resting. On the other hand my grandson with my Browning Silhouette and a red dot and a gun rest blasted the 5"target at 27 yards but he did have some FTF from the junky 22LR ammo. My wife liked shooting the Ruger SR1911 but she can not rack it. Fun gun, I don't plan on carrying it but great for the range and my collection. May wear it OC when on my ranch property. Glad I got it and thanks for the encouragement of others. My first 1911.
