§ 46.03. PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (a) A person commits
an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly
possesses or goes with a firearm, illegal knife, club, or
prohibited weapon listed in Section 46.05(a):

§ 46.01. DEFINITIONS. In this chapter:

(6) "Illegal knife" means a:
(A) knife with a blade over five and one-half
inches;
(B) hand instrument designed to cut or stab
another by being thrown;
(C) dagger, including but not limited to a dirk,
stilletto, and poniard;
(D) bowie knife;
(E) sword; or
(F) spear.
(7) "Knife" means any bladed hand instrument that is
capable of inflicting serious bodily injury or death by cutting or
stabbing a person with the instrument.

SO.... WOULD THIS BE ILLEGAL IN TEXAS?

To my knowledge it is illegal to carry expandable batons in Texas. I believe they are classified as a "club", but I am neither an LEO or lawyer, just telling you what others have passed on to me.

ASP batons are illegal for most citizens to carry unless you are a Police Officer, or have been certified to carry it while on duty as a Security officer, correctional officer, military officer etc.... under those circumstances, you are not supposed to carry them while "off-duty"

Man, all these are some very stupid laws. You know it pisses me off that we here law abiding citizens are sooooooo very concerned with following the Texas Laws while there are people out there, Thugs, GB, that don't give a you know what about following laws. And in the end, it is us that gets screwed.

Patience Ladies and Gentlemen...Lets not get our bowels in an uproar with alternative methods of personal protection...

Firearms, legal length knives, chemical sprays, and electrical stun devices...

That pretty much our lineup...Anything outside of that is pushing back the legal envelope where we don't want to get too caught up in "is this ok?" kinda stuff...

Most of us have been around long enough to know where the boundaries are, and getting angry at politicians and their intelligence level degrades the discussion of even why you believe it is plausible to carry an ASP baton, or some other exotic form of cutlery device...

If anything, we need to keep it simple, legal, and to train and practice to be as good as you can in that realm...

And when you are working on that, relate those kinds of stories in the forum to those that might be looking/seeking info like that...

You don't realize how effective good, solid and simple discussions influence people to look into what you and I do to solve issues they may have about self-defence...And we may never know about it...

I'm not meaning to demean or offend, I believe this is not a direction we need to consentrate on...My apologies...

"Ever" is an awefl long time. I'm pretty optimistic about our future. There was a time not so long ago I thought it was impossible to have Republicans running the Governors mansions the State Senate house and the House of Reps.. I once thought I would never see the day the Red Sox win the the world Series ... Over time things change.

well, i can't argue that. you have a point. it'll certainly be more than a month of Sundays before it happens though.

So excuse me if this is rehashing an earlier topic, but I've always wondered about this below.

(1) on the physical premises of a school or
educational institution, any grounds or building on which an
activity sponsored by a school or educational institution is being
conducted, or a passenger transportation vehicle of a school or
educational institution, whether the school or educational
institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written
regulations or written authorization of the institution;


(c) In this section:
(1) "Premises" has the meaning assigned by Section
46.035.



§ 46.035.
(3) "Premises" means a building or a portion of a
building. The term does not include any public or private driveway,
street, sidewalk or walkway, parking lot, parking garage, or other
parking area.

I've read it enough, and to me it would seem that I could go park on campus, leave the gun in the truck, and be alright. It even sounds like its ok to walk around campus, just so long as you stay out of the buildings. But is that truely the case, never have been able to interpret this with any certainty.

Failing that, say a public street runs through campus, if I park on the public street while leaving the gun in the truck, am I ok there?

That is correct.

If you are a student or employee of the school, it may be against their rules, but it's not illegal.
