Fewer than 1% of the CHL holders in Texas are members of this forum, and most of those have never posted a message.
Self-reporting is not reliable. It's like people complaining about products that they bought. Far more unhappy people complain than satisfied buyers give testimonials.
For the record, my last traffic stop was in 1996, and my last ticket was in 1982. I'm not exactly scrupulous, but I keep my eyes open in small towns and my license plate doesn't say BUST ME.
In the time that I have been driving, going on 15 years now, I have been pulled over 2 times. Once when I was 19, I was speeding, but when I went to court the officer never turned it in. So I got lucky on that one, since I was going 26 over. The other time that I was pulled over was for a reason that I do not know. The officer told me that there was a warrant linked to my vehicle. I told her that I did not have a warrant and asked her to double check. She did and came back and said that she made a mistake. This was just a few years ago and I had just gotten off from work as a security officer. I had my weapon on at the time in uniform.. The whole time that I was stoped the other officer in the car was standing on the passanger side with his had on his weapon.
Both of these were before I got my CHL.
I got my first ticket ever by HPD a few weeks ago. I've gotten most of my tickets in Bellaire and West U over the years.
I was crossing over I-10 on Houston ave headed towards downtown (a notorious trap). So the officer waves me over and asks me only for my license and not my insurance, which I thought was strange. So I hand him my license and my CHL. His response was "Do you have your weapon on you?" When I replied "No" he said "Good!". I was kinda thrown off by that and could tell he really didn't care. So I sign the ticket 40MPH in a 30MPH and asked him for my license back. He said that he already gave it to me. So I proceed to look for it in my wallet, seat, the console etc. Of course I'm a bit nervous as I'm doing the search so I proceeded with caution. The license is nowhere to be found, so he walks back to his car and its on the ground underneath the vehicle...sheeeesh!!
So, not such a great first time traffic stop for me and the CHL.
However, I am getting my first experience hiring David Sprecher as he is the Wal-Mart of traffic ticket lawyers (high-volume....high-turnover).
I am far and away not the poster child for obeying traffic laws especially speeding. I have not been caught in quite awhile. I do put forth a more improved effort to not speed since I carry now. I believe I am a safer driver as a result.
This has been discussed to a considerable extent on this site.
I get better fuel mileage too.
Agressive driving can lead to road rage encounters, although I do not have nay evidence that it is anymore so than obeying the traffic laws. Mrs. Anygun frowns more now if I do digress into old habits and she is absolutely right in doing so. I do owe her for most of who I am as a man and individual so her opinion matters.
Now, if I can just get those brain-dead idiots out of my way when I am enroute from the airport to the house to hug my lady after being out of town......

I have only been stopped once since 2000. (70 in a 55) It was DPS drivers license trooper woman doing her quota stops. The first thing she said was, "Is there a reason you are speeding?" I said, "I am an air ambulance pilot responding to an emergency call." She said, "thank you" and walked right back to her car and let me go. I am just waiting to be stopped again, I usually drive 85-90 in a 70 on the way to the airport when I am responding to a call. I am sure they will let me go on though!

No need for a lawyer if you have time. Houston is easy, ask for a jury trial which will kick it out 6-12 months then just show up for court. they will dismiss the ticket instead of paying jurors. i have done this over a dozen times. Doesnt cost a dime. You will sit there all day though as docket is 8am but they wont dismiss usually till after 2pm.

Then take it to a race track.
First two quotes were me, not the third. And I was coming down a huge hill so with the help to gravity I was doing 80. Who rides their brakes coming down a hill? Just coast and you will go back to the cruise control setting.
So yeah, pulling me over coming down a hill in which you are guaranteed to go over 70 - very lame.
I will respect a LEO even if I am getting pulled over for something lame. So yeah, its part of life.
If that's true, that's just awesome in a very strange sort of way...
