Subsonic ammo, without a supressor would not be that quiet, but CB rounds are that quiet. They only use the primer as the propellant.

I have shot them at my parent's farm and they are every bit as quiet as a low-end pellet gun. I shot at some 2 liter bottles and the sound of the bullet hitting the bottle was louder than the shot. These will not cycle most semi-autos, but a tube-fed rifle that can shoot 22 short, long, and long rifle ammo will work as a straight-pull bolt gun.

I agree with TAM. CB rounds are about as loud as a pellet rifle. It's still illegal to shoot in the city as TAM and others state. You need a Rufus Hussey beanshooter.

Bad idea to use any .22 rimfire to control birds within the city limits.

Besides being illegal (as mentioned by others), it is inherently dangerous.

The use of a 'Pellet Gun' also might not be allowed depending upon city ordinances.

I will only address question 2.

I use my Browning semi-auto .22 rifle regularly to dispatch nuisance skunks, possums, etc with CCI CB caps. Only works as a single-shot, normally doesn't fully eject the fired casing.

Quieter than ANY pellet gun I've ever seen or used, whether gas or spring.

Got to realize the sights will be off if the rifle is sighted in for regular .22 and compensate or resight.

Very quiet. Much quieter than the same CB caps fired from a .22 pistol. Of course this also depends on the layout of the houses in the area (echo effect).

Nupe, ' need to check that out a little better. Methinks possibly confused with some of the Mexican loads that use primer only (and are recommended for handguns only due to squibs in rifles). The .22 Longs shown in the link DO indeed have gunpowder, enough to get the projectile started at over 700 fps - certainly capable of damage to far more than birds.

Take that rifle away from him immediately. Send it to me for proper storage.

Seriously, he needs to find another way to control the birds. If, he's just
lookin' to shoot something, take him to a range near you.
