Sure Mike,

From August 2002-2004 I was an LDS missionary in Los Angeles. When I was in LA, I lived in 11 different apartments that were all rented by the church, my name was not on any of them. The entire time I was there, I had a Texas DL, and had my parent's home address on my license because that was where I lived when I left. Once I got home, I moved to College Station and updated my DL address there.

So, when I was filling out my CHL paperwork in late 2004, I was faced with much the same dilemma and questions that the OP has. Once I got home, I could not have told you one single address for any of those places. So, when I called down to the DPS in Austin (they actually answered the phone back then) I explained the entire situation, and they asked me if I had a California driver license or if I kept my Texas license and Texas address the whole time. When I said that I kept my Texas license and had not changed my address that whole time on my DL, they instructed me to just report my parent's home address for that entire time period and not include any of those from LA, then include the CS address starting in August of 2004.

So, it is not my position that someone not report an actual residence. But in situations like mine and the OP's, the DPS told me to only report places that had appeared on my DL... That's what I was instructed to do, that is what I did, and there was not one single question about it when I sent in my paper work.

Thanks AJ. The back story helps to provide context. I appreciate the time you took to reply.

You should only list whatever address was on your driver's license at any given time. easy, simple.
