Practicing with lower cost FMJ's is the way to go as the difference between the point of impact vs JHP's is negligible.

I do understand your concern as it was once my own, until I shot/compared both and realized FMJ's were close enough for accuracy and far more economical, plus I would practice more because of that issue too.

IMHO this is the ideal practice. It maintains familiarity with the performance of the defensive ammo, makes a malfunction from bullet setback very unlikely, and does so at minimal cost.

I'd add that doing this once a month is enough for those who visit the range frequently.

I start each range session by expending my 26 round JHP basic load. Then FMJ. Then refresh the basic load. Winchester white box works well for me and my Tanfoglio BTA90.

Let me explain better. I was just looking for some hollow points that weren't double or triple price. I love shootin all my weapons. And yes most of the time with hollow points. I do shoot fmj ammo for standard practice. But when on the tractor,lawnmower, 4 wheeler, or walking to check out our corn feeders you never know what size varmint will be out and about. That's why I said hollow points. Anyway thanks for the feedback.

I fully understand why one would want to carry hollow point ammo. What I see no need for is to practice with HP ammo. At the probable distances you would encounter a four or two legged varmint to be engaged with a handgun it is unlikely that there will be any significant difference between JHP or FMJ ammo performance until the varmint is hit. The difference will occur once the round makes contact.

However, if you can find any HP ammo at or near the price of FMJ to practice with or can afford to practice with higher priced HP ammo, then have at it. I would not discourage anyone if that is their choice. It just doesn't make sense to me because I don't see a significant enough difference between shooting the two different kinds of rounds.
