Water - How Much?

I would be more concerned with what the bottled water comes in. Plastic containers by the billions can't be good for the environment. I know someone will say they recycle. That seems to make them feel better about it. Well, I got news for you. Recycling isn't good for the environment either. People have been led to believe that it's some kind of magical process that will save the earth. It's not. Re-purposing does more good than recycling. But there's only so much you can do with a plastic bottle. It all eventually ends up in the landfills anyway. Recycling waste water also. Where I live we are required to rinse things out before throwing them in the recycle bin. A lot of water is wasted doing this.

I carry my water with me if I am at a venue that is going to charge me 2+ dollars for water. I know people that carry their water with them always. I also know people that carry their firearms with them where ever legal. These folks never know if and when they will need their firearms for protection, hoping and praying they never will. They folks with their water on them know that they will use their water that day. If they are comfortable with it, so am I. More power ...... uh more water to them!

Based on the responses, obviously the part of my post that said, "Sure, right now in the Texas heat one must keep hydrated, especially if you stay exposed to the heat for long periods. " was missed. Its not a worry of mine, just an observation, and the links provided seem to indicate we may have become "aquaholics" based on information that has been either not proven, dis proven, or debunked . Drink all you want. I don't worry about it and neither should you. But I do recommend you read some of the links anyway, if for nothing more than an interesting read

I drink 3-4 40 oz jugs of water a day, and I work indoors. This is borderline too much, and I have had sodium issues in the past. You would have to drink an insane amount of water to have toxicity issues.

Consuming too much water during training has become an issue in the military during this heat wave. People are over compensating. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/07/28/ar ... chool.html

I'm sorry you had to deal with someone like that. Seriously wth is wrong with people these days? What happened to our good Texas manners where she should have OFFERED you tea or water? Come on!RPBrown wrote:Being in the A/C business I am in the heat most of the day. I don't count how much water I drink in a day but I go through a case every couple of days. I went down with heat stroke several years ago and was told I would be more susceptible to it now. The older I get the less heat I can take without water.
I actually had a customer complain yesterday because I had just replaced a part in the refrigeration circuit and was pulling a vacuum to remove any moisture. Doing that there is really nothing to do so while the pump was running I grabbed a bottle of water and stepped a few feet away into the shade. She saw this and came out yelling that she wasn't paying me to stand around and drink water. BTW, it was 107 in the shade yesterday.
I drink when I feel I need it so it is nothing for me to drink a gallon or more

I try and drink at least a gallon a day, sometimes more and sometimes less. On days that I workout I'll drink a gallon in the gym. I know that's too much but I get dryer than a road lizard sometimes!

I'd have told her she wasn't paying me at the moment, she was paying that pump over there; I just happen to be collecting.RPBrown wrote:Being in the A/C business I am in the heat most of the day. Re: Water - How Much?
A quick google search says 6 liters to kill a 165 lbs person. Keep in mind we all consume way too much sodium usually so probably more than that really. That is also not counting strenuous activity. That is 6 liters for a 165 lbs person who consumes their recommended allowance of sodium, and potassium, and is sitting in the ac all day. That is 12 of those half-liter bottles you buy at the store. The most water I've ever consumed in a day is 180 oz, 6 liters is 202 oz, and I'm a big guy at 330 lbs, and I was out in our lovely heat all day.stash wrote:Steve - what does it do the body if you drink to much? I regularly consume 140ish oz of water in a day. With no salt tablets or electrolyte packets because I get too much in my food anyways. The heat kicks my rear end because i'm fat and out of shape, but I've still been better off than people younger and in better shape because I'm not dehydrated. Keep in mind that by the time you feel thirsty you are already dehydrated. A vast majority of people run around their daily lives at low levels of dehydration. Then once they start sweating they literally cannot consume water fast enough to counteract that water loss. You have to hydrate the day before, preferably two days before, or just stay hydrated all the time. Start your water intake early and keep ahead of it.
Couple weekends ago I took a rifle class that ran from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and I was the only person not wilted by the end of it. Everyone else was sitting out sections of the class, having degraded accuracy, getting sick, etc. I started drinking water at 6:00 AM, and had probably 2/3rds of my half gallon jug of water by the time I even got to the place. I had a gallon of water by the end of class. Then I drove to my mother's place and shredded until 8:00 PM and had another half gallon of water doing that. I was tired, but no crazy symptoms. So moral of the story is don't listen to people that tell you that you drink too much water. It is such a large amount that you will have trouble getting to that point. Same with salt the 50/50 lethal dose (meaning half the people that consumed that much would be expected to die) for the same 165 lbs person is 8.7 oz. Which doesn't sound like a lot until you try to eat half a pound of salt.

She did get extra added on. After I collected I told her next time call someone else. Her comment was ill call your boss and just see about that. I said go ahead, I own the company and am out running calls due to the over abundance of calls. Guess she didn't believe me as she called the office. Our dispatcher answered listened to her complaint and told her she would transfer to the owner. My desk phone was transferred to my cell. I was not quite finished loading my truck when the call came through. Funny thing was she was standing outside and had been talking loud enough for me to hear. The look on her face when I answered was priceless.Pawpaw wrote:"Oh! I didn't realize you wanted the $250 per hour rate. I drink 4-5 20 oz bottles of water every day. It helps with weight loss, among other thinkgs; and staying hydrated makes it easier for me to stay active and exercise.
