For me, 'mode of carry' plays the deciding role in revolver vs. semi-auto. Personally, I carry a semi most all the time but I will carry a nice model 60 smith that is a dream to shoot and have no qualms about it being a revolver rather than a semi-auto...
That being said, the ladies...
If you are purse carrying, I suggest a revolver over a semi-auto. The reason being that, if you have to shoot from inside the purse, the action will most likely not be interfered with for the revolver. The compact semi-autos have such tight tolerances that ANYTHING against the slide will keep it from cycling right. The revolver has a relative assurance with it that it will go bang the next time you squeeze the trigger after shooting from inside the purse. I suggested this for my mother-in-law so she went and bought one of the airweights...she loves it!
