I prefer indoor ranges because most outdoor ranges do not have target pulleys and you have to wait for a cease fire to check or change targets. When I pay by the hour, I don't want to stand around waiting for someone to tell me I can go downrange.

It's been my experience, that if they have a cease fire type setup where you can only go downrange at set intervals, they don't usually charge by the hour but by something like by number of shooters or weapons. But if they were charging by the hour, I'd have to agree that would be a deal breaker for me as well.
