I'm a bit confused about role the OP wants this new gun to fill. If it is another carry gun, then why get a duplicate of a gun you already own? Take this for what it's worth since I'm a bit hypocritical here as I have a lot of very similar guns including multiple full size 1911's, both the CZ 75 BD and CZ 75 Shadow, Sig P226 R and Sig P226 MK25. But I can say that I don't have 2 of the exact same gun make and model. And I do feel bad about having very similar guns in the safe (plus I'm trying to sell the P226 R).

I'm mainly trying to understand if this new gun will be used for something other than carry. If it will be a designated bedside, or car, gun, then you could definitely get something a bit larger. I would recommend the G21 for bedside with a tac light. That's a really nice set-up.

Gun familiarity and parts interchangeability are just two reasons why I'd consider a duplicate gun. I really am getting attached to gen4 Glocks, tend to fit my hand better.

If my funds permitted, I would get another g19.

If you haven't bought a new gun yet, and since you're a Glock guy, try a 19 MOS. Put a Leopold Deltapoint Pro on it and see if you like it. I shot a friend's 1911 with one milled into the slide and I love it! I know many people claim it's slower to pick up the dot than the front sight, but those folks can't shoot.

Seriously, if you present the gun correctly and consistently, then the dot is at least as fast if not faster. The trick is to focus solely on your target so that when you present your handgun correctly, the dot will be on target. I never would have believed it, but it took less than five minutes of practice and I can shoot it as fast or faster than my fiber optic front sight. At CQB rangres, the difference is marginal at best because correct CQB technique involves threat-focus shooting. (That's what you will do in a fight, so you may as well practice it.) Beyond CQB range, it is faster and far more accurate.

Again, had I not shot the Deltapoint Pro last Saturday, I would have discounted this post myself.

Unless you want to go with a competition oriented holster of some kind, I suspect that you'll have an easier time finding a good carry holster for a G17 than a G34........at least that would be my guess.

I think the longest OAL 9mm Glock is the Glock 17L.

I stand corrected, but I'd still make the same guess that it's probably easier to find a holster for a G17 than a G17L or G34.
