I like the XD. I have shot a 9mm M&P and it shot well, but I didn't like the feel of it as much as the XD.
I also prefer having the trigger AND grip safety of the XD.

I currently carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II in .45 cal for my primary and a Taurus 605 in .357 for my BUG and when I don't feel like carrying the Kimber. I have always been a 1911 fan. And the Kimber shoots better than anything I've ever shot. But I just have been seeing ads and such for the Springfield and the S&W. The store I buy at doesn't have either in stock so I'm gonna have to go to Lubbock and rent one to see which I like. I would like to have either one for something to carry when I feel like carrying something else.
Thanks for the help guys.

I've got a XD .40 and have put a few rounds through my friend's XD .45. No problems thus far. I met a guy in my CHL class that had a Smith and said he's had all kinds of problems with it. It could be a lemon though.
Personally, I'd go with a XD or a Glock. Everyone's right about the XD gear. The only thing I use is the magazine loader. A Fobus holster for $20 at the gun show is much better than the XD gear holster. I shoot better with Glocks for some reason and have been thinking of trading my XD in for one. I think it's a great gun, just maybe not the right one for me.

I've got an XD-45 and an M&P 9mm. I like them both, but if I had to choose between them, I'd take the XD.
